Job summary

Economic Development Queensland (EDQ) is seeking a Director of Engineering to provide strategic leadership across its Established Growth team, guiding infrastructure and development outcomes throughout Priority Development Areas. You will lead engineers, offer high-level advisory input, and foster a collaborative, high-performing culture with strong regulatory alignment.

Ideally you will have tertiary engineering qualifications and a background in local government or consultancy, delivering

Qualifications

• Proven experience in complex infrastructure, development assessment or engineering environments.
• Experience in senior technical advisory capacity, influencing decisions and resolving challenges.
• Demonstrated leadership, coaching and team development capabilities.
• Strategic, solutions-oriented mindset with ability to see the bigger picture.
• Strong understanding of regulatory requirements and commercial development priorities.

Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor and develop a team of engineers, providing strategic direction and fostering a high-performing culture.
• Provide high-level engineering advice and oversight on complex infrastructure and planning matters, ensuring regulatory and compliance outcomes.
• Act as a senior escalation point, delivering practical, solutions-focused advice to resolve challenges and enable development outcomes.
• Build and maintain strategic relationships with government agencies, developers, consultants and industry stakeholders to influence delivery.
• Drive continuous improvement in engineering service delivery, governance frameworks and operational performance, aligned with EDQ's objectives.
