Job summary

Vivid Engineers is seeking a Diagnostic Structural Engineer to join our West End, QLD-based team (preferred) or Ultimo, NSW. You will perform diagnostic investigations, prepare comprehensive reports for insurers and clients, and deliver structural design documentation for diverse projects across Victoria, Queensland, and New South Wales.

You will work within a small, collaborative team of 15, balancing field site visits with office-based reporting, and you may travel across Australia.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years’ experience in structural engineering within Australia.
• Experience in diagnostic investigations and report writing.
• Strong knowledge of Australian Standards & NCC.
• Proficiency in engineering software (AutoCAD, Bluebeam) and MS Office.
• Ability to coordinate subconsultants and review junior engineers’ work.

Responsibilities

• Prepare high‑quality diagnostic reports for insurers, builders, and stakeholders.
• Conduct site inspections to diagnose building damage or performance issues.
• Assess causation and provide clear rectification recommendations.
• Deliver structural design documentation for new builds, alterations, and remedial works.
• Collaborate with drafting staff and external consultants.
• Ensure compliance with Australian Standards and the NCC.

Diagnostic Structural Engineering

• Prepare high‑quality technical and diagnostic reports for insurers, builders, and other stakeholders
• Conduct site inspections to diagnose building damage or performance issues
• Assess causation and report to provide clear, practical rectification recommendations
• Liaise with subconsultants and clients
• Deliver structural design documentation for new builds, alterations, temporary structures, make safe propping, and remedial works
• Collaborate with drafting staff and external consultants (geotechnical, architectural, etc.)
• Ensure compliance with Australian Standards and the NCC

Team & Project Contribution

• Provide guidance to junior engineers
• Participate in checking reports, QA and peer review
• Balance urgent reactive work with planned deliverables
• Contribute to continuous improvement of reporting, design systems and processes

You’ll thrive here if you have:

• Minimum 5 years’ solid experience in structural engineering within Australia
• Experience in diagnostic investigations, preparing compelling discussions and report writing
• Strong working knowledge of Australian Standards & NCC
• Proficiency in engineering and office software (AutoCAD, MS Office, Bluebeam and various structural design packages)
• Confidence coordinating subconsultants and reviewing junior engineers’ work
• Enjoy documenting in report format as well as producing plans
• Excellent written and verbal English communication skills
• A proactive, accountable, high‑energy working style

This is a fast‑paced role balancing multiple concurrent reports and design packages, suited to engineers who thrive on variety and quick turnaround

This is a QLD‑based role, working from our West End office, with close day‑to‑day support and collaboration with our Docklands (VIC) team. We will also consider suitably qualified candidates based in NSW, who would work from our Ultimo, NSW office.

The role includes site visits and occasional work from home.

Full‑time, permanent role with occasional travel across Australia. We are also open to considering suitably qualified candidates who prefer to work on a contract basis.

Mandatory: Full driver’s licence (company car provided for work use).
