Job summary

Canberra Grammar School is seeking an engaging and innovative Design and Technology Teacher to join our Senior School for a one-term parental leave position commencing in Term 1, 2027. You will teach across Digital Technologies, Applied Information Technology, CAD, robotics and coding, supported by a collaborative team dedicated to excellent teaching and student wellbeing.

This role includes pastoral and co-curricular duties across the School calendar.

About the Role

Canberra Grammar School is seeking an engaging and innovative Design and Technology Teacher to join our Senior School for a one-term parental leave position commencing in Term 1, 2027.

This is an exciting opportunity to bring technology and creative problem-solving to life. You will encourage students to explore ideas, experiment with emerging technologies and develop the confidence to turn concepts into practical solutions.

The successful candidate will ideally be able to teach across areas including Digital Technologies, Applied Information Technology, computer-aided design, robotics and coding. Whether you are an experienced educator or an emerging teacher with strong potential, you will be supported by a knowledgeable and collaborative team committed to excellent teaching and learning.

Teaching at CGS extends beyond the classroom. Our teachers know their students as individuals, contribute to pastoral care through the Student House system and participate in the broader co-curricular and community life of the School. The position therefore includes teaching, pastoral and co-curricular responsibilities, with some out-of-hours commitments across the School calendar.

About You

You are a creative, curious and collaborative educator who enjoys helping students understand how technology can be used to solve problems, express ideas and shape the future.

• You combine strong subject knowledge with the ability to make learning practical, relevant and memorable. You establish high expectations while creating an inclusive classroom where students feel confident to experiment, learn from setbacks and challenge themselves.

You will demonstrate:

• subject expertise appropriate to teaching Design and Technology across the secondary years;
• the ability to teach Digital Technologies and Applied Information Technology, including areas such as:
  • computer-aided design;
  • robotics;
  • coding; and
  • digital technologies;
• knowledge of coding and, ideally, experience teaching it;
• the capacity to engage students across a broad range of ages, abilities and learning needs;
• effective use of assessment, feedback and data to advance student learning;
• a genuine commitment to pastoral care, co-curricular participation and the broader life of the School;
• excellent written and verbal communication skills; and
• strong technological literacy.

Experience in any of the following would be highly regarded:

• teaching within the IB Middle Years Programme, IB Diploma Programme or NSW HSC;
• contributing to technology-based enrichment, competitions or extension programmes;
• supporting co-curricular, outdoor education or service activities; or
• postgraduate study or scholarship in a relevant discipline or in education.

• a relevant tertiary degree and recognised teaching qualification;
• current ACT teacher registration through the ACT Teacher Quality Institute;
• a valid ACT Working with Vulnerable People registration;
• HLTAID009 – Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and HLTAID011 – Provide First Aid, or a willingness to obtain them;
• a current National Police Check; and
• full working rights in Australia.
