Job summary

City of Whittlesea is seeking a Deputy Municipal Building Surveyor (PD) to lead and mentor a multidisciplinary building services team. The role ensures statutory service delivery under the Building Act 1993 and Local Government Act 2020, with delegation to act in the MBS's absence.

The part you will play

• Support the MBS and Council in managing complex regulatory and compliance matters under the Building Act 1993 and the Local Government Act 2020.
• Provide technical and leadership mentoring to staff within the building services team, ensuring best-practice processes and quality outcomes.
• Act under full delegation in the MBS's absence as well as in supporting the delegation function to maintain statutory service delivery and decision-making continuity.
• The DMBS deputies performing the statutory functions of Council's Municipal Building Surveyor (MBS) as required, ensuring continuity of leadership and decision-making across the function and act under full delegation in the MBS's absence.
• Contribute to Council's emergency call-out roster, supporting life safety and critical incident management within the community.
• Represent Council in high-risk and compliance matters, including court proceedings and technical assessments.

• Are a confident and collaborative leader with a sound understanding of building legislation, strong technical judgment, and a commitment to community safety.
• Have proven leadership, mentoring, and problem-solving skills within a multidisciplinary team environment.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to interpret and apply complex legislation.
• Minimum 7 years local government experience.
• Have exceptional people liaison and interface skills and communication techniques.
