Job summary

Serco is seeking an experienced maritime professional for a casual Master/Mariner role based at HMAS Kuttabul in Sydney. You will provide professional seamanship, vessel operations and marine engineering support across Defence activities, contributing to safe and reliable Navy operations.

Requirements include AMSA Master <24m Near Coastal and MED III qualifications, plus relevant maritime experience and first aid. Duty includes harbour services, maintenance and training; a driver’s licence and MSIC eligibility may be needed.

Qualifications

• AMSA Master <24m Near Coastal certificate.
• Marine Engine Driver Grade III Near Coastal certification.
• First Aid certificate and maritime safety training.
• Experience in Defence or naval support operations is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Operate as Master, Mate or GP Hand per AMSA qualifications.
• Support harbour services, fuelling operations, and marine tasks.
• Perform vessel manoeuvres, seamanship and shipboard drills.
• Oversee maintenance and engineering activities to MED III standards.
• Maintain vessel logs, work orders, and operational records.
• Contribute to training and induction of inshore vessel personnel.
• Collaborate with Defence, Serco teams and contractors for safe operations.
