Job summary

Community Housing Ltd (CHL) is offering entry-level Defect Assistant roles to support quality assurance across new build sites in Australia. You will help identify defects, document them with photos, complete checklists and keep the online portal up to date under supervision.

Ideal candidates are studying Construction or Project Management (2nd year+) or recent graduates, with strong attention to detail and good communication. A Construction White Card is preferred and PPE is provided on site.

Qualifications

• Strong attention to detail and clear written/verbal communication.
• Confident with using technology and smartphones for defect reporting.
• Proactive, reliable approach and able to work within timeframes.
• Willing to obtain Construction White Card if not held.

Responsibilities

• Support quality assurance by identifying, documenting and tracking defects across new build sites.
• Record defects, capture photographic evidence and complete quality checklists.
• Maintain timely updates in the online portal and monitor work orders through to completion.
• Collaborate with CHL and site-based teams to ensure defect reporting efficiency.

What you’ll be doing

As Defect Assistant, you’ll support CHL’s quality assurance processes by helping identify, document and track defects across new build sites. Working under the direct supervision of Asset Maintenance Officers, you’ll record defects accurately, capture photographic evidence, complete quality checklists and maintain timely updates in the online portal. You’ll also work collaboratively with CHL and site-based teams to support efficient defect reporting and monitor the status of work orders through to completion.

What we’re looking for

We’re looking for someone who is studying Construction or Project Management in their second year or above, or who has graduated within the last six months. You’ll bring strong attention to detail, clear written and verbal communication skills, confidence using technology and a proactive, reliable approach. You’ll be comfortable working within timeframes, using a smartphone to capture photos and markups for defect reporting, and willing to obtain a Construction White Card if you do not already hold one. Access to steel cap boots is required, with PPE such as hi-vis and hard hat provided on site.
