Job summary

Smartgroup Corporation is seeking an experienced Database Analyst to optimise data platforms and support enterprise data operations. You will manage database environments, improve performance, and contribute to cloud transformation initiatives across the IT function.

Responsibilities include data feed management, schema administration, performance tuning, and upgrade planning, with collaboration across vendors and stakeholders to minimise downtime and enhance user experience.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in Database Administration or similar role.
• Advanced T-SQL and SQL Server administration experience.
• Experience with high availability and disaster recovery technologies (Always On, replication, backup/recovery).
• Strong knowledge of MS data tools: SQL Server, SSRS, SSIS, Power BI.
• Experience with cloud-based data solutions, esp. Azure SQL, Synapse, Data Factory.

• Monitor and manage internal/external data feeds for reliable data availability.
• Administer and maintain database platforms and schemas for secure, efficient access.
• Provide database performance tuning, automation, scripting, and best-practice recommendations.
• Plan and implement upgrades to improve service continuity and user experience.
• Develop implementation plans, tests, and scripts to support operational reliability.
• Collaborate with vendors/stakeholders to resolve incidents and minimize downtime.

Are you an experienced Database Analyst who enjoys optimising critical data platforms and helping organisations get the most from their data? Join our Infrastructure team and play a key role in supporting, modernising and enhancing enterprise database environments that underpin business operations across the organisation.

Working within our IT function, you'll be responsible for managing database platforms, improving performance, supporting business-as-usual operations, and contributing to ongoing data platform maturity and cloud transformation initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

Monitor and manage internal and external data feeds to ensure reliable data availability.

Administer and maintain database platforms and associated schemas to support secure, efficient access to organisational data.

Provide database performance tuning, automation, scripting and best practice recommendations.

Plan and implement system upgrades and enhancements to improve service continuity and user experience.

Develop implementation plans, custom scripts and testing procedures to support operational reliability.

Partner with vendors and stakeholders to resolve incidents, minimise downtime and support ongoing platform improvements.

Skills and experience:

You’ll bring:

Demonstrated experience in Database Administration, ideally with 5+ years in a similar role.

Advanced T-SQL skills and strong SQL Server administration expertise.

Experience with SQL Server high availability and disaster recovery technologies, including Always On Availability Groups, replication, backup and recovery.

Strong knowledge of Microsoft data technologies, including SQL Server, SSRS, SSIS and Power BI.

Experience working with cloud-based database solutions, particularly Microsoft Azure SQL Managed Instance environments.

Exposure to Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics and modern data integration practices, including ETL and ESB frameworks.

Qualifications

Tertiary qualification in Computer Science or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.

Microsoft certifications will be highly regarded.
