Job summary

Westpac is seeking a Data Scientist for Group Audit in Sydney. You will join the Data Centre of Excellence Advanced Analytics to design and productionise AI solutions, automate audit activities, and uncover risks and insights from data.

You'll collaborate with audit teams and specialists, using Python, SQL, Alteryx and Copilot to solve real business problems. The role is permanent, full-time with hybrid arrangements in Sydney.

Qualifications

• Around 3-5 years’ practical data science experience, ideally within financial services, audit, assurance or risk environments.
• Strong hands-on experience applying machine learning, artificial intelligence, Generative AI, automation or predictive analytics to solve business problems.
• Strong Python and SQL capability, including experience working with complex structured and unstructured data.
• Experience designing, building or productionising AI and Generative AI solutions, including model pipelines, Large Language Model integration, monitoring or lifecycle management.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to independently investigate problems and translate technical outputs into clear business insights.
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with a collaborative and practical approach to delivering solutions.

Responsibilities

• Design and deliver advanced analytics and production-grade AI solutions for Group Audit.
• Identify opportunities to automate audit activities and improve efficiency.
• Use data to uncover emerging risks, control weaknesses and meaningful business insights.
• Collaborate with audit teams and specialists across Technology, Risk and Compliance to apply Python, SQL, Alteryx and Copilot to business problems.
