About the role
Join a high-profile Queensland Government digital transformation delivering a new, cloud-based approvals platform. This Data Engineer contract will suit someone who thrives in complex programs—where data foundations, migration readiness, and governance matter.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and optimise scalable Azure-based data pipelines (lakehouse-style patterns where appropriate)
- Engineer robust solutions for migration and integration across large/complex datasets
- Partner with delivery teams to uplift data quality, reliability, and performance using strong SQL
Highly desirable criteria
- Proven experience supporting a platform replacement program—ideally involving Appian and/or Dynamics 365 (e.g., migrating workflows/process-led platforms and ensuring data alignment, cutover readiness, and reporting continuity)
- Demonstrated success in large-scale migration initiatives where there’s pressure on auditability, traceability, and data integrity (government/regulated environments highly regarded)
Desirable criteria
- Hands-on exposure to Microsoft Fabric (e.g., Lakehouse/Warehouse, Data Factory in Fabric, pipelines) and an understanding of when to use it vs Databricks/Azure-native services
- Strong appreciation for data governance and discovery using tools such as Microsoft Purview (cataloguing, lineage, access controls)
- Experience designing data solutions with security and compliance front of mind (role-based access, sensitive data handling, documentation discipline)
- Familiarity with cutover planning and supporting release cycles (UAT support, defect triage, reconciliation checks, post-go-live stabilisation)
Skills and experience
- Azure + Data Lake + Databricks, plus strong SQL engineering capability
- Track record delivering within complex programs with clear communication and stakeholder engagement
