Job summary

Exclaim IT is seeking a Senior Data Migration Engineer on a contract basis to modernise enterprise data on a major platform. You’ll work hands-on with Azure to migrate complex, high-volume datasets and establish foundations for what comes next.

You will deliver end-to-end migrations, optimise pipelines with Azure Data Lake and Databricks, and collaborate with delivery teams, ensuring data governance and lineage through Purview.

Qualifications

• Senior-level data migration engineering on cloud platforms.
• Proven delivery on large/complex migration programmes with data quality focus.
• Strong SQL with performance tuning and validation/reconciliation.
• Experience in Azure migration patterns and modern data platforms.
• Experience in government or highly regulated environments.

About the role

Step into a high-impact Senior Data Migration Engineer contract, helping modernise data on a major enterprise platform within a fast-moving delivery team. You’ll work hands-on with Azure to migrate complex, high-volume datasets and set strong foundations for what comes next.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver end-to-end data migration (profiling, mapping, loading, reconciliation) across complex datasets using Azure and SQL
• Build and optimise migration pipelines leveraging Azure Data Lake and Databricks
• Partner with delivery stakeholders to keep migration outcomes on-track (quality, performance, auditability)
• Support strong data governance and lineage practices (e.g., Purview)
• Contribute to migration planning, estimates, and risk/issue management across the programme

Highly desirable criteria

• Proven delivery on large/complex migration programmes with strong troubleshooting and data quality focus
• Deep Azure experience across migration patterns and modern data platforms
• Strong SQL (performance tuning, complex queries, validation/reconciliation)
• Experience in Appian ? Dynamics migration/transformation environments
• Prior work in government or highly regulated environments

Desirable criteria

• Exposure to Microsoft Fabric
• Hands-on experience with Purview (catalogue, lineage, governance)
• Familiarity with Databricks best practices (jobs, orchestration, optimisation)
• Strong documentation skills (mapping, rules, reconciliation evidence)
• Ability to mentor/guide others in migration approach and standards
