Job summary

NEXTDC is seeking a Data Centre Technician to support the Hyperscale Facility Management team in daily operation of our data centres, delivering high-quality electrical and mechanical maintenance with safety, uptime and customer service at the forefront.

In a 24/7 environment you will monitor critical infrastructure, operate and maintain power, cooling, and BMS systems, participate in risk management, and support continuous improvement and on-call duties.

Qualifications

• Strong customer service and interpersonal skills to manage stakeholder expectations.
• Clear written and verbal communication; explain technical concepts clearly.
• Strong planning, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
• Solid understanding of data centre operations: rack management, IT installations, cooling, power.
• Willingness to build expertise in high-density power and advanced cooling technologies.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office; exposure to BMS desirable.
• Working knowledge of ITIL principles.

Responsibilities

• Assess and manage risks across OH&S, security, and critical facility systems.
• Apply risk management framework; feed insights to Engineering to improve design and operations.
• Ensure best-practice installation of customer infrastructure (power monitoring, rack security, environmental controls).
• Monitor system performance via BMS; fault finding to minimise MTTR.
• Support continuous improvement of data hall monitoring (temperature, humidity, alarms, power).
• Follow established frameworks, policies, and procedures for safe and compliant facility operations.
• Promote and support training to ensure OH&S compliance and operational standards.
• Maintain strong working knowledge of critical systems to act as a technical reference.
• Assist with customer equipment handling, deliveries, and assembly as required.
• Produce operational reports with recommendations to improve performance and reliability.
• Participate in team activities and ongoing professional development.
• Engage in regular development discussions aligned with company competency frameworks.
• Participate in a rotating on-call roster to support 24/7 operations.
