Job summary

InterWorks is seeking a Data Architect in Melbourne to lead enterprise data strategy, architecture, governance, and solution delivery for diverse client projects. You’ll design scalable data platforms, drive standards, and implement governance frameworks that deliver lasting value.

You’ll guide client engagements, partner with multi-disciplinary teams, and ensure data quality and security across platforms while balancing project goals and timelines.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in data architecture, data engineering, or a related field.
• High proficiency in SQL and strong data modeling skills.
• Experience in data governance, compliance standards, and enterprise data strategy.
• Excellent communication skills—written, verbal, and interpersonal.

• Proven experience with data lakehouse architecture and handling semi-structured data.
• Experience supporting data science initiatives.
• Knowledge of pipeline cost monitoring and optimization.
• Comfortable leading business engagements to source requirements or refine data models.

• Serve as a strategic liaison between business and IT to bridge gaps and ensure alignment.
• Manage project timelines, expectations, and deliverables with clear communication and strong stakeholder engagement.

Please be advised that this role is required to be located in the Melbourne, Australia InterWorks office. Remote work or telecommuting arrangements outside of this jurisdiction are not permissible for this position.

Salary range commensurate with experience and qualifications.

What You’ll Do

• Proven experience with data lakehouse architecture including the storage and processing of semi-structured and unstructured file types
• Proven support for data science initiatives
• Understanding of pipeline and cost monitoring and optimisation
• Comfortable leading business engagements to source requirements or refine data models
• Experience with Azure & AWS CSP's preferable

What We’d Like You to Have

• Experience with BI and visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI)
• Familiarity with modern data warehouses and cloud platforms (e.g., Snowflake, Databricks)
• ETL tool experience (e.g., dbt, Matillion, Informatica, Fivetran)
• Knowledge of AI/ML concepts and their role in data platforms
• Degree in Computer Science, IT, or a related field (preferred)
