Job summary

Intrinzic partners with a major Australian organisation to hire a Data Architect in Sydney. You will lead the data architecture direction, build out AWS and Snowflake platforms to support advanced analytics and data products, and establish governance to ensure security, privacy and quality across the stack.

You will be credible with engineers and executives, translating complex business requirements into workable engineering plans, while aligning across business and technology teams.

Qualifications

• 7+ years in data architecture, with payments or financial services behind you.
• Enterprise data platform design on AWS and Snowflake.
• Strong modelling and solution design.
• SQL, ETL and CI/CD across the modern data stack, with exposure to Power BI and ML-based analysis.
• The influencing side. You need to be credible with engineers and with executives.
• Based in Sydney and happy to be in the office a couple of days a week.

Intrinzic are proud to be partnering with one of the most important organisations in Australia in the search for a Data Architect.

This organisation is a leader in the domestic payments infrastructure that this country sits on - the rails underneath the card payments, the bill payments and the real-time transfers that move money between Australians every day.

It is also a genuinely interesting time to be joining. The legacy system that has carried Australian bulk payments for decades is being retired by 2030, and effectively all of that volume has to land on the real-time rails instead. The platforms underneath are being uplifted to carry it. This is not maintenance work on something winding down.

What makes this one worth a look is the state of the platform. The modern data stack here is being shaped now rather than inherited finished, and the brief is explicitly to get it ready for advanced analytics, AI-driven analysis and proper data products - not to keep a reporting warehouse ticking over. AWS and Snowflake underneath, real payments data on top of it, and architecture decisions that carry weight because of what runs on them.

What you will do

• Set the data architecture direction across complex initiatives, from conceptual and logical design through to physical.
• Build out the AWS and Snowflake platform so it genuinely supports advanced analytics, AI-driven analysis and modern data products.
• Establish the standards and governance that make security, privacy and quality consistent rather than decided case by case.
• Be the technical authority people come to before they commit - which pattern, which platform, what the trade-off costs in two years.
• Take ambiguous business requirements and turn them into something an engineering team can actually build against.
• Work across business and technology, and simplify the complicated parts for people who do not live in the data every day.

What you will need

• Around seven years or more in data architecture, with payments, banking or financial services behind you.
• Enterprise data platform design on AWS and Snowflake, not just consumption of someone else's.
• Strong modelling and solution design. You can take a messy brief and come back with a coherent architecture.
• SQL, ETL and CI/CD across the modern data stack, with exposure to Power BI and ideally ML-based analysis.
• The influencing side. You need to be credible with engineers and credible with executives, often in the same afternoon.
• You are based in Sydney and happy to be in the office a couple of days a week.

What will put you in front

• Architecture or data management certification.
• Experience through a large migration where the data model had to change underneath a live service.
• Anything you have done to get a platform ready for AI workloads rather than just talking about it.
