Job summary

The Recruitment Company in Macquarie Park, NSW is hiring a Senior Data Engineer/Lead Data & Analytics Engineer to join a global data & AI transformation. The role blends hands-on engineering with influence over platform design, engineering standards and data practices.

You'll work closely with the Head of Data & AI to drive the Microsoft Fabric migration, design scalable data solutions across the platform, and mentor engineers while improving governance and data quality across analytics

Qualifications

• Senior Data Engineer with strong SQL and database development skills.
• Experience with Microsoft Fabric is a plus.
• Knowledge of lakehouse, warehouse and Medallion architecture.
• Ability to work through ambiguity and own engineering practices.
• Experience with data governance, lineage, metadata and governance.
• Proven track record of taking ownership and influencing across teams.
• Python and/or PySpark is advantageous.

This newly created Data & Analytics Technical Lead/ 2IC role will work closely with the Head of Data & AI, combining hands‑on engineering with the opportunity to influence platform design, engineering standards and data practices.

What you'll bring

We're looking for a strong Senior Data Engineer who combines deep technical capability with the confidence to influence and operate with autonomy.

You'll ideally bring:

• Advanced SQL and strong database development skills
• Strong data modelling, ETL/ELT and transformation experience
• Experience with Microsoft Fabric - Bonus!
• Understanding of modern lakehouse, warehouse and Medallion architecture
• Strong understanding of data quality, lineage, metadata and governance
• Experience with Git, code review and CI/CD
• Python and/or PySpark would be advantageous
• A track record of taking ownership and improving engineering practices
• Most importantly, you'll be someone who doesn't need everything mapped out for you. You can work through ambiguity, challenge assumptions, make sound technical decisions and bring stakeholders with you.
