Job summary

TRC Group in Australia is hiring a Senior Data Engineer / 2IC to join a global financial organisation undergoing a Microsoft Fabric migration and a broader Data & AI transformation. You will work closely with the Head of Data & AI, delivering hands-on engineering and shaping platform design, standards and data practices.

This role offers strong ownership, exposure to cutting-edge technologies, mentoring across the engineering function and the chance to influence how data is structured, governed

Qualifications

• AdvancedSQL, data modelling and ETL/ELT experience required.
• Experience with Microsoft Fabric and modern data platforms beneficial.
• Strong understanding of data governance, lineage and metadata.

This newly created Senior Data Engineer / 2IC role will work closely with the Head of Data & AI, combining hands‑on engineering with the opportunity to influence platform design, engineering standards and data practices.

What you’ll bring

We’re looking for a strong Senior Data Engineer who combines deep technical capability with the confidence to influence and operate with autonomy.

You’ll ideally bring:

• Advanced SQL and strong database development skills

• Strong data modelling, ETL/ELT and transformation experience

• Experience with Microsoft Fabric - Bonus!

• Understanding of modern lakehouse, warehouse and Medallion architecture

• Strong understanding of data quality, lineage, metadata and governance

• Experience with Git, code review and CI/CD

• Python and/or PySpark would be advantageous

• A track record of taking ownership and improving engineering practices

• Most importantly, you’ll be someone who doesn’t need everything mapped out for you. You can work through ambiguity, challenge assumptions, make sound technical decisions and bring stakeholders with you.
