Job summary

East Gippsland Shire Council is offering a 12-month Business Traineeship commencing January 2027, based in Bairnsdale, Lakes Entrance, Omeo or Orbost. You’ll work 38 hours a week, Monday to Friday, with on-site duties and no weekend shifts.

You’ll gain hands-on experience across the council’s Business Excellence directorate, exploring customer experience, library and visitor information services, while completing a supported study plan.

Commencing in January 2027, as a business trainee,you will learn the fundamentals to get you started in your career. Your firstthree months will be hosted by the customer experience team, where you willlearn about the different functions council performs, how to provide excellentcustomer service and the basics of administration, data entry and teamwork.

Once your first three months under yourbelt you’ll start to move around to different teams, learning about what eachteam does and how the skills you learnt in your first three months underpinevery role you have.

Along the way you’ll have a half day perweek allocated to study your allocated modules. You’ll still need to do somestudy outside of work, plan to allocate additional time each week to complete coursework. The teacher comes to us so you can continue your learning in the workenvironment for maximum benefit.

We provide you with a uniform, a laptop touse for study and everything else you need for success.

At the end of the 12 months, you’ll have aqualification and 12 months of government experience to add to your resume.You’ll also be eligible to apply for any job opportunities available atCouncil.
