Job summary

Health and Aged Care Professionals – Melbourne VIC is partnering with a well-established specialist day hospital to recruit an experienced CSSD / Instrument Technician for the theatre team.

The role involves reprocessing surgical instruments and reusable devices, ensuring sterility, and supporting scheduled procedures within a collaborative environment. You will maintain records, adhere to standards, and contribute to infection prevention and patient safety.

Qualifications

• Experience in CSSD or instrument reprocessing.
• Certificate III in Sterilisation Services or equivalent.
• Knowledge of sterilisation standards including AS/NZS 5369:2023.
• Experience in hospital/day surgery environment.
• Excellent attention to detail and strong organisational skills.
• Confidence working independently and prioritising competing requirements.
• Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach.
• Genuine commitment to quality, safety and patient care.

Responsibilities

• Cleaning, decontaminating and reprocessing reusable surgical instruments and devices.
• Inspecting instruments for cleanliness, functionality and damage.
• Assembling, packaging, labelling instrument sets.
• Operating sterilisation and cleaning equipment per standards.
• Monitoring sterilisation cycles and quality checks.
• Maintaining sterilisation records and traceability.
• Ensuring sterile instruments are stored and distributed appropriately.
• Prioritising instrument turnaround to support theatre lists.
• Monitoring CSSD consumables and stock levels.
• Reporting damaged instruments and non-conformances.
• Maintaining infection prevention and workplace safety.
• Collaborating with nursing/theatre staff for smooth lists.
• Contributing to quality, accreditation and improvement activities.
