About the team

The Transport Asset Management team is responsible for the long-term stewardship of the City’s transport assets, including roads, pathways, bridges, retaining walls, major culverts, roadside infrastructure, and electrical and intelligent transport systems.

We are a multidisciplinary team of asset management, engineering, planning, data and inspection professionals. We work across the asset lifecycle to understand asset condition and risk, develop renewal and maintenance priorities, improve asset information, and support sustainable investment decisions.

This role sits within the Transport Asset Management team and will work closely with the asset inspectors, engineers and planners, as well as City Maintenance supervisors and delivery teams.

A key focus will be helping to develop and establish a data driven renewal program and a more coordinated and proactive approach to transport maintenance.

The team environment is collaborative and improvement-focused, with a strong emphasis on practical solutions, sound asset management principles and working across business areas to achieve better outcomes for the City’s transport network and the community.

About the role

The Coordinator Sustainable Transport Assets is responsible for leading and coordinating the sustainable road assets function, acting as the Asset Custodian Representative for the City’s pathways and associated road-inventory assets.

The role provides accountable leadership across lifecycle planning, asset performance and risk, condition and inspection strategy, maintenance stewardship, capital program development, asset information, technical assurance, financial planning and stakeholder response.

The position translates asset needs, evidence and customer outcomes into affordable and deliverable maintenance, minor works and renewal programs.

As a member of the senior leadership group, the position is expected to operate under broad direction, exercise substantial judgement, lead significant programs and change, model the City’s leadership behaviours, and remain accountable for the quality, effectiveness, cost and timeliness of the team’s services and programs.

Key outcomes
  • A capable team with clear priorities, accountabilities and sustainable workloads.
  • Safe, serviceable and fit-for-purpose sustainable road assets supported by risk-based decisions.
  • Affordable, prioritised and deliverable maintenance, minor works and renewal programs.
  • Reliable asset information, transparent evidence and improved performance reporting.
  • Effective asset-custodian input across planning, design, delivery, handover and maintenance.
  • Timely, consistent and technically sound responses to customers, Councillors and stakeholders.
We’re looking for people who have:
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Civil Engineering, Asset Management, Infrastructure Planning, Project Management or related disciplines, and / or relevant equivalent knowledge and experience
  • C Class Drivers Licence (Unrestricted)
  • Construction General Induction Card (White), or ability to obtain where required for site duties.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a multidisciplinary asset-management, planning or infrastructure team.
  • Advanced knowledge of infrastructure asset management, lifecycle planning, risk, levels of service, condition and performance, maintenance and renewal programming.
  • Ability to convert complex asset, customer, condition, financial and risk information into clear priorities, programs, budgets and recommendations.
  • Strong program, project, contract, consultant and financial management capability.
  • Ability to apply asset-custodian governance across project definition, design review, technical assurance, delivery interfaces, handover and acceptance.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, negotiation, influencing and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Ability to develop people, delegate effectively, manage competing priorities and build a constructive and accountable team culture.
  • Working knowledge of relevant asset information, spatial, reporting and corporate systems, and the ability to define data and analytics requirements.
  • Sound understanding of local-government governance, safety, environmental, financial, procurement and legislative obligations relevant to the portfolio.
