Job summary

Edward River Council in Deniliquin is seeking an experienced Coordinator Economic Development and Strategic Growth to drive sustainable growth, investment attraction and strategic planning across the Edward River region.

Lead the Economic Development team, oversee precinct and master planning, manage grants and partnerships, and deliver projects that create jobs and lasting regional prosperity.

Qualifications

  • Certificate IV or equivalent in business/economics/government relations or project management.
  • Experience delivering strategies and plans to achieve unit objectives.
  • Knowledge of government grant/subsidy programs and local government processes.
  • Ability to coordinate staff with a customer-service focus and Council values.
  • Understanding of risk management and WHS principles.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and timely documentation.
  • Current Drivers Licence and ability to obtain Working with Children and National Police Checks.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and report on the Economic Development team contributions to Plans and budgets.
  • Monitor budgets, deliver cost savings, and report on performance.
  • Provide strategic economic development advice to support Council objectives.
  • Lead the Economic Development team in alignment with Council values and policies.
  • Support businesses to maximise investment and employment opportunities.
  • Oversee grant management framework development and evaluation.
  • Develop partnerships with federal/state/local agencies and business groups.
  • Lead strategic growth initiatives including precinct and master planning.
  • Coordinate master planning processes for key sites and growth areas.
  • Collaborate across Council to align development priorities with planning and infrastructure.

Edward River Council is seeking an experienced and motivated Coordinator Economic Development and Strategic Growth to drive sustainable economic growth, strategic investment, and development opportunities across the Edward River region. This exciting leadership role offers the opportunity to shape the region's future by delivering economic development initiatives, strategic growth projects, precinct planning, and investment attraction programs that support long-term prosperity for our community.

About the Role

The Coordinator Economic Development and Strategic Growth is responsible for driving and coordinating sustainable economic growth, investment and strategic development outcomes across the Edward River region. The role coordinates the delivery of economic development, master planning and strategic growth initiatives, supporting Council to attract investment, strengthen industry and plan for future growth. This position facilitates the development and implementation of place based strategies, precinct and master planning, and economic initiatives that support job creation, population growth and long term regional prosperity.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and report on the Economic Development team contribution to the annual Operational Plan, other relevant strategies, and plans, supporting achievement of service and project delivery targets and timely reporting of service performance.

  • Monitor the Economic Development team budgets, supporting cost effectiveness, achievement of budget targets, delivery of savings and innovations, and accurate reporting of budget performance.

  • Provide strategic economic development and growth advice and services to support the achievement of Council's objectives, building the capacity and sustainability of the Edward River community.

  • Lead, develop and coordinate the Economic Development team in a way that is consistent with Council's values, policies, and systems.

  • Support new and existing businesses to maximise their investments and grow employment opportunities in the Edward River region through the delivery of business attraction, retention and ongoing support programs, projects, and initiatives.

  • Oversee the development, implementation and evaluation of the grant management framework.

  • Develop and maintain collaborative partnerships and alliances with federal, state, local and regional agencies, and business groups to optimise economic development and grant funding outcomes.

  • Lead the development and delivery of strategic growth initiatives, including precinct planning, master planning and land use strategies that support economic development outcomes.

  • Coordinate and oversee master planning processes for key sites, precincts and growth areas across the LGA.

  • Work collaboratively across Council to align economic development priorities with strategic planning, infrastructure delivery and long-term financial planning.

About You
  • Certificate IV in Business, Economics, Government Relations, Project Management or similar, or equivalent experience in a comparable role.

  • Contemporary experience implementing strategies and plans to deliver service unit objectives within scope and in accordance with policy and processes.

  • Demonstrated understanding of Government grant/subsidy programs and the importance to Local Government.

  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate and develop staff consistent with a culture of customer service excellence and Council's values – Leadership, Excellence, Accountability and Delivery.

  • Demonstrated understanding and competence in contemporary risk management and Work Health and Safety principles and practice.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including a demonstrated ability to prepare accurate and timely documentation such as reports, presentations, and procedures.

  • Current Drivers Licence.

  • Working with Children and National Police Check or willingness to obtain.

  • Desirable: Experience in Local Government.

  • Desirable: Experience in preparation of grant/subsidy applications.
