Job description

Employment Status: Permanent, full time (Commencement Date: Monday 22 June 2026)
Days & Hours of Work: Monday - Friday totalling 38 hours per week
Competitive Salary: Band 8 -$133,367 - $149,592 (depending on experience) + 12% superannuation
Location: Corporate Centre in Sandringham, with the flexibility to work from home

About the Role

As a result of a recent retirement, we have a unique and exciting opportunity available for an experienced, strategic and dynamic Local Government Economic Development Coordinator to lead our high performing Economic Development team. This position is a key leadership role that leads Council’s work regarding the economic development, placemaking and activations of our city.

The team has recently completed a comprehensive Economic Development Tourism and Place Making Strategy (EDTPS) that’s sets the stage for an experienced practitioner to work with the team to implement the associated detailed action plans.

Responsibilities
  • Leading a cross organisational effort of activity centre revitalisation works
  • Overseeing the activation of Bayside's Activity Centres through Placemaking initiatives and Christmas Program
  • Careful planning, budget monitoring and staff resource allocation to deliver the varied actions of the EDTPS
  • Directly supervising the Economic Development team in the delivery of economic development services
  • Preparing reports regarding the various initiatives and undertakings of the Economic Development unit
  • Coordinating community and stakeholder engagement in accordance with Council’s Engagement Framework
Key Selection Criteria

To be successful in this role, you will bring the following skills and competencies:

  • Knowledge of the contribution of economic development to the overall role and function of local government
  • Politically astute, responsive and innovative with the capacity to build strong networks that yield outcomes for our organisation and community
  • Well-developed written and oral communication skills, as well as demonstrated customer service and consultation/engagement skills practices
  • Experience in dealing with business and industry including liaison and managing conflicting expectations.
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Proven skills and experience in implementing strategies, driving action and building influence
  • Experience in designing and implementing programs and services related to activations, business attraction, retention, development and employment
  • Tertiary qualifications in economics or urban planning post graduate qualifications in management would be desirable and /or extensive local government experience
Mandatory pre-employment requirements
  • Be willing to undertake and complete a satisfactory criminal history check
  • Provide or obtain an employment-based Working with Children check
  • Psychometric testing
