Job summary

Whitehorse City Council is seeking a Cook for its Early Learning Services to prepare nutritious meals and snacks for children at our Centres. The role is part-time, 13 hours per week, with shifts on Thursday and Friday, based at Whitehorse Early Learning Services in Melbourne.

Applicants should hold a Certificate in Food Handling, have food preparation experience, and be aware of nutritional and cultural dietary needs for children.

Qualifications

• Certificate in Food Handling and awareness of health and safety regulations including the food safety plan.
• Experience in preparing meals and accurately purchasing and ordering supplies.
• Understanding nutritional, religious and cultural requirements and allergies for children.
• Ability to schedule and distribute food to meet timeframes.
• Strong verbal and written communication for menu and purchasing information.

Responsibilities

• Provide nutritious, well balanced daily meals and snacks for children in the centre.
• Prepare meals, manage portioning and ensure timely service.
• Assist with purchasing and ordering supplies to meet kitchen needs.
• Adhere to health, hygiene and safety regulations and food safety plan.

• Salary $34.65 per hour + 12% Superannuation
• Part Time Opportunity - 13 hours per week
• Based at our Children’s Services Centres

The role:

The position is responsible for the provision of nutritious, well balanced and attractive daily meals and snacks for children in the Centre.

You will be required to work 13 hours per week on Thursday and Friday.

About you:

To be considered for this position you will have:

• Certificate in Food Handling and awareness of statutory regulations in relation to health and hygiene, including the food safety plan.
• Demonstrated experience in food preparation as well as accurately purchasing and ordering supplies.
• Understanding of nutritional, religious and cultural requirements and food allergies for children.
• Ability to schedule and distribute food to meet set timeframes.
• Good verbal and written communication skills to enable effective interaction and clear communication of menu and purchasing information.
