Job summary

Whitehorse City Council is seeking a part-time food service assistant to prepare nutritious meals for children in our Children's Services Centres in Melbourne. The role requires caring for children's dietary needs and ensuring meals are balanced and appealing.

The successful candidate will work 13 hours per week on Thursdays and Fridays, with a focus on safe food handling and timely meal distribution. This position offers community impact and supportive team culture.

Qualifications

• Certificate in Food Handling with awareness of health, safety and hygiene regulations.
• Experience in food preparation and accurate purchasing of supplies.
• Understanding nutritional, religious and cultural requirements and food allergies for children.
• Ability to schedule and distribute food to meet timeframes.
• Good verbal and written communication to clearly convey menus and purchasing information.

The role:

The position is responsible for the provision of nutritious, well balanced and attractive daily meals and snacks for children in the Centre.

You will be required to work 13 hours per week on Thursday and Friday.

About you:

To be considered for this position you will have:

• Certificate in Food Handling and awareness of statutory regulations in relation to health and hygiene, including the food safety plan.
• Demonstrated experience in food preparation as well as accurately purchasing and ordering supplies.
• Understanding of nutritional, religious and cultural requirements and food allergies for children.
• Ability to schedule and distribute food to meet set timeframes.
• Good verbal and written communication skills to enable effective interaction and clear communication of menu and purchasing information.
