Job summary

South Cairns Sports Club in Cairns is seeking a full-time Cook to join our kitchen team. You will work a 38-hour week on a rotating roster that includes nights, weekends and public holidays, delivering dishes for the restaurant, café and functions.

The ideal candidate has a Certificate III in Commercial Cookery (or Cert IV) with hands-on kitchen experience, strong food safety knowledge, and the ability to work well under pressure as part of a team. Own transport to Bentley Park is preferred.

Qualifications

• Certificate III in Commercial Cookery or Certificate IV with on-the-job training required.
• At least 1 year full-time (or equivalent) cooking in a commercial kitchen.
• Sound food safety and hygiene knowledge.
• Availability for nights, weekends and public holidays.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, season and cook food for restaurant, café and functions.
• Check quality of stock and produce as it comes in.
• Set and monitor oven, grill and cooking equipment temperatures.
• Portion and plate meals, add sauces and garnishes to presentation standards.
• Prepare meals for customers with special dietary requirements.

• Follow all food safety and hygiene procedures and keep work areas clean.
• Help with menu planning, specials and estimating food orders.
• Support the Head Chef and work closely with front-of-house staff.

• At least one year of full-time experience (or equivalent part-time) cooking in a commercial kitchen

• Ability to work at pace during busy service and as part of a team
• Availability for nights, weekends and public holidays
• Reliable, with a positive attitude
• Own transport or the ability to get to Bentley Park for rostered shifts
