Job summary

Aboriginal Hostels Limited (AHL) is seeking a Cook to join the Durungaling Hostel, Newcastle, on a part-time basis, weekdays 11:30am–6:30pm. You will prepare meals in a safe, industry-standard kitchen and support daily operations.

The role emphasizes quality food service to residents, adherence to Food Safety Standards Australia, stock rotation, hygiene, and teamwork with the hostel staff. Previous commercial cookery experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• Experience in meal preparation in an industry-based environment.
• Experience in commercial cookery and stock rotation management.
• Good understanding of cleanliness and health standards.

Responsibilities

• Maintaining a high level of customer service to all residents.
• Adhering to Work Health and Safety (WHS) practices at all times.
• Assisting the hostel team with general duties as required.
• Cook and prepare meals for residents.
• Prepare and deliver high-quality meal services aligned with set menus and Food Safety Standards.
• Manage kitchen inventory and maintain presentation and hygienic practices in dining spaces.

AHL is seeking a Cook to join the team at Durungaling Hostel, Newcastle. The position is part-time, working weekdays only from 11:30am - 6:30pm.

What We’re Looking for in a Cook:

• Experience in meal preparation in an industry-based environment, ensuring the safe production of quality food without compromise to Food Safety Standards Australia.
• Experience in commercial cookery, and the ability to manage stock rotation while ensuring timely service and hygiene of cooking equipment.
• Good understanding of cleanliness and health standards required whilst preparing food at the workstation.

Key Responsibilities

In line with APS 2 work level standards, you will be responsible for:

• Maintaining a high level of customer service to all residents.
• performing all duties in a manner which upholds AHL's commitment to safety for staff and residents and adhere to Work Health and Safety (WHS) practices as all times.
