Job summary

Vitalia's Italian Restaurant in Cairns is hiring an experienced Cook for a permanent, full-time role. You will prepare and present a range of Italian dishes, including pizzas and focacce, while maintaining quality and presentation.

Responsibilities include mise en place, stockrotation, and ensuring food safety standards throughout service. The ideal candidate has at least 1 year of cooking experience, strong Italian cooking skills, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced kitchen

Qualifications

Job Description

Vitalia's Italian Restaurant in Cairns offers authentic Italian cuisine including pizza, focaccia, panini, and a range of traditional lunch and dinner dishes. Vitalia's Italian Restaurant is now looking for an experienced Cook to join their team. The right candidate will be responsible for:

Prepare, cook and present a range of Italian dishes in accordance with Vitalia's recipes and quality standards, including pasta, meat, seafood and traditional Italian specialties. Prepare ingredients and complete mise en place for lunch and dinner service, including vegetables, meats, seafood, sauces and other components. Prepare and cook pizzas, focacce and other baked Italian products, ensuring appropriate cooking times, temperatures and presentation.

Operate assigned kitchen sections independently during service while coordinating orders to ensure dishes are completed accurately and on time. Monitor the quality, freshness, taste, portioning and presentation of meals before they are served to customers. Prepare sauces, fillings, accompaniments and other components required for the restaurant's Italian menu.

Monitor stock levels and rotate ingredients using appropriate FIFO procedures to maintain freshness and minimise food wastage. Receive, inspect and correctly store food deliveries in accordance with temperature control and food safety requirements. Maintain clean and organised kitchen workstations, cooking equipment, utensils and food preparation areas throughout each shift.

Follow food safety, hygiene and workplace health and safety procedures, including correct food storage, temperature monitoring and prevention of cross-contamination.

About you: At least 1 year of experience as a Cook;

Strong cooking and food preparation skills, particularly in Italian cuisine; Ability to work independently across kitchen sections in a fast-paced service environment; Sound knowledge of food safety, hygiene, stock rotation and kitchen procedures;
