Job summary

Southern Adelaide Local Health Network – Flinders Medical Centre – Consumer Advisory Service invites applications for a Consumer Adviser. You will provide high-quality information and patient-focused service to the public and agencies, and manage an accessible complaint mechanism across SALHN.

You will maintain feedback databases, investigate complex complaints, and deliver meaningful data reports to management and divisions. A strong customer service background in healthcare is essential.

About the role:

The Consumer Adviser is accountable to the Southern Adelaide Local Health Network (SALHN) Manager, Consumer Advisory Service for the provision of high quality information and client service to the community and other agencies, and for providing an accessible complaint mechanism for the public/other agencies including the investigation, evaluation and reporting of complaints.

• Maintaining an effective accessible consumer feedback mechanism and promoting and assisting consumers with their feedback about health care services provided by the SALHN.
• Consulting with relevant staff members involved and undertaking any other necessary steps to ensure consumer complaints are fully investigated.
• Ensuring a comprehensive and effective information service concerning the services provided across SALHN.
• Exercising a significant level of responsibility and judgement when dealing with potentially politically sensitive and medico-legal matters.
• Maintaining a suite of feedback databases on consumer feedback and providing meaningful, data, reports and information to management and Divisions.

About you:

• Demonstrated experience to provide high quality customer service, including the handling of complex consumer complaints and resolving sensitive issues preferably within healthcare or human services environment.
• Strong investigation, analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to assess information, identify key issues and develop fair and balanced outcomes.
• Exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement skills, including the ability to work effectively with consumers, families, clinicians and senior leaders.
• Resilience, sound judgement and conflict resolution skills enabling you to manage challenging conversations and competing perspectives with professionalism and empathy.
• Experience in the use of the Consumer Feedback Module of Safety Learning System.
