Job summary

Glencore is seeking a Construction Manager to lead the delivery of the Black Star Open Cut (BSOC) Project. The role will start in Brisbane, then transition to a FIFO/DIDO arrangement to Mount Isa during execution, on a Monday–Friday roster.

You will own planning, coordination and execution of all construction activities in a safe, efficient and high‑quality manner within a mining and processing environment, coordinating multiple contractors and handover to operations.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience leading construction on major mining or industrial projects.
• Proven ability to manage large contractor workforces and interfaces.
• Knowledge of SHMS and safety leadership in live operations.

Stellar Recruitment is proud to partner with Glencore, who are currently seeking a Construction Manager to lead the delivery of the Black Star Open Cut (BSOC) Project, a major brownfield expansion within their Mount Isa operations. This role will initially be based in Brisbane, then transition to a FIFO/DIDO arrangement to Mount Isa during project execution, working a Monday – Friday roster.

As Construction Manager, you will take ownership of planning, coordinating and executing all construction activities, ensuring safe, efficient and high-quality delivery within an active mining and processing environment.

About the role

The Construction Manager – Black Star Open Cut (BSOC) will play a pivotal leadership role in delivering one of Glencore’s most significant growth projects. This position is accountable for the planning, coordination and execution of all construction activities, ensuring delivery is safe, efficient and aligned with project scope, cost, schedule and quality requirements.

Initially supporting project development in Brisbane, the role will transition to FIFO Mount Isa during execution. You will lead multiple contractors and complex work packages, ensuring safe construction delivery within an active mining and processing environment while supporting successful commissioning and handover.

Key responsibilities

• Lead development and execution of the project construction strategy
• Manage all construction activities in line with approved scope, cost, schedule and quality
• Drive safe, predictable and efficient construction delivery outcomes
• Oversee contractor performance, governance and workforce mobilisation
• Manage brownfield integration within an active mining operation
• Coordinate shutdowns, tie‑ins, isolations and SIMOPS activities
• Ensure compliance with SHMS and site safety systems
• Monitor construction performance across cost, schedule and productivity metrics
• Support commissioning, startup and handover to operations
• Build strong stakeholder relationships across project, operations and contractor teams

About you

You are an experienced construction leader with a strong background in delivering major mining or industrial projects, ideally within brownfield environments. You bring a proven ability to manage complex contractor workforces, navigate operational interfaces and deliver projects safely and efficiently from execution through to commissioning.

• Extensive experience in major mining, infrastructure or industrial project delivery
• Proven leadership of construction execution on large capital projects
• Strong contractor management and commercial acumen
• Experience working within live operational or brownfield environments
• Deep understanding of SHMS, risk management and safety leadership
• Ability to lead large, multi‑disciplinary teams
• Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills
• Experience supporting commissioning and operational handover
• Tertiary qualification in Engineering, Construction Management or related discipline (preferred)
