Job summary

Kyogle Council invites applications for a Construction Ganger to support civil works and maintenance across roads in New South Wales. You will coordinate on-site activities, supervise contractors, and ensure safety, quality, and environmental compliance throughout road projects.

The role requires a White Card, Traffic Control Ticket, and relevant road construction qualifications, with licenses to operate and supervise plant and roadworks. A team-oriented communicator is essential.

Qualifications

• Year 10 completion or equivalent is required.
• Maintain White Card / OH&S induction valid for site work.
• Hold Certificate III in Road Construction and Maintenance.
• Traffic Control Ticket is preferred or required.
• Valid Class C Driver's Licence; MR/HR beneficial.
• Loader Ticket and environmental compliance knowledge.
• Experience supervising worksites and contractors.
• Knowledge of EEO and safety principles.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate worksite activities in WHS, Risk and Environmental regs.
• Operate plant and equipment safely and legally.
• Ensure timely completion of costing sheets per Council procedures.
• Implement and monitor roadwork environmental and quality controls.
• Erect and maintain traffic control devices during operations.
• Report accidents or injuries promptly and file required paperwork.
• Perform manual tasks and traffic control as needed.
• Maintain a diary of works and report difficulties promptly.
• Ensure plant items are roadworthy via regular checks.
• Supervise contractors on-site and verify licenses and permits.
• Maintain strong communication and teamwork within the department.

Job description

As a Construction Ganger you will be an integral part of our construction and maintenance team, working closely with the Overseer and other team members to ensure the efficient and safe execution of worksite activities. This role is essential to maintaining the high standards of safety, quality, and environmental compliance that our organisation upholds.

Key Responsibilities

• Coordinate worksite activities in compliance with WH&S, Risk, and Environmental regulations.
• Operate plant and equipment efficiently and safely, adhering to relevant laws and Council policies.
• Ensure timely completion of costing sheets following Council procedures.
• Implement and monitor roadwork environmental and quality controls.
• Erect and maintain traffic control devices during construction and maintenance operations.
• Report accidents or injuries promptly and complete necessary paperwork.
• Perform various work duties, including manual tasks and traffic control as needed.
• Maintain a diary of works and report any difficulties promptly.
• Ensure all plant items are maintained in roadworthy condition through regular checks.
• Supervise contractors on-site and ensure they have the necessary licenses and permits.
• Maintain strong communication and teamwork within the department.

• Levelling and set out skills, plan reading skills, cost estimates, and specifications
• Ability to perform manual labour tasks
• Good oral and written communication skills
• Occupational Health & Safety Workcover General Induction Ticket (White Card)
• Current Class C Driver's License
• Knowledge of Equal Employment Opportunity and Occupational Health and Safety principles
• Ability to coordinate plant and labour efficiently
