Job summary

Snowy Monaro Regional Council seeks a Construction Worker Parks & Gardens to operate plants and perform maintenance of roads, parks and reserves. You will help keep town amenities in top condition for residents and visitors, with focus on safe practices and quality workmanship.

The role requires MR licence, White Card, and experience in operating a variety of rural plant and equipment. A certificate II/III in Horticulture or related field is preferred, with strong teamwork and safety mindset.

Qualifications

• Drivers Licence Class MR unrestricted.
• NSW WHS Construction Induction (White Card).
• Demonstrated ability to operate plant (line markers, hoists, EWP, trucks, tractors, mowers, slashers, brush cutters).
• Ability to follow Supervisor instructions and Council practices with/without supervision.
• Participate in toolbox talks as required.
• Ability to manually lift per WHS guidelines.
• Traffic Control Tickets – Traffic Controller & Implement Traffic Control Guidance Plan.
• Read and understand simple plans; maintain plant and hand tools.
• Certificate II or III in Horticulture, Greenkeeping, Landscaping or related field.

• Conduct regular maintenance checks and service of equipment to meet standards.
• Promote safety through proper use of PPE and safety procedures.
• Deliver Traffic Control at Worksites as directed.

• Support Council goals through professional conduct and accountability.
• Contribute to a safe workplace by complying with safety rules.

Package: $64,551 - $71,253 + 12% Super(Grade 4 of the SMRC Salary System 2026-2027)

About the Role:

• Operate assigned plant and vehicles and carry out laboring duties in the maintenance and construction of roads, parks and gardens and roadsides in accordance with Council standards, timetable, environmental and quality objectives
• Operator minor plant including line markers, hoists, elevated work platforms, trucks, tractors, mowers, slashers, edgers and brush cutters etc. Conduct regular maintenance checks and servicing of the plant to ensure a high level of operational standard is attained
• Contribute to the safety of staff and public through the appropriate use of safety equipment and clothing in accordance with relevant safety standards and Council procedures
• Deliver Traffic Control at Worksites as directed
• Follow written and oral instructions
• Promote information sharing and knowledge transfer to drive evidence-based decision-making, enhance capability and optimise capacity
• Contribute to the performance of Council: demonstrate professional conduct, make the best use of knowledge, experience and skills and be accountable for own decisions and actions
• Contribute to a safe workplace: comply with legislative and organisational requirements and be accountable for own decisions and actions

About You:

To be successful in this role you will have:

• Drivers Licence Class MR unrestricted
• NSW WHS Construction Induction (White Card)
• Demonstrated ability to operate a variety of plant i.e. Line Markers, Hoists, Elevated Work Platforms, Trucks, Tractors, Mowers, Slashers, Brush Cutters etc
• Proven ability and ongoing commitment to work as directed by Supervisor, according to Council’s prescribed practices, Code of Conduct and Work Health and Safety procedures, with or without supervision
• Demonstrated ability to participate in toolbox talks as required
• Proven ability to manually lift in accordance with WHS guidelines
• Traffic Control Tickets – Traffic Controller and Implement Traffic Control Guidance Plan
• Demonstration understanding of and the ability to maintain plant, equipment and hand tools in a safe and useable condition
• Demonstrated experience with minor plant e.g. chainsaws, compaction equipment and power tools
• Current First Aid Certificate
• Proven ability to read and understand simple plans
• Certificate II or III Horticulture, Green keeping, Landscaping or related field
