Job summary

Australasian Stone is seeking a skilled Construction Estimator to join our Mount Waverley team. You will prepare tenders for commercial stone and tiling projects, review drawings and specifications, and develop detailed costings to win profitable work.

You will collaborate with the Director and cross-functional teams, leveraging CostX, Bluebeam and PlanSwift, with strong Excel skills to assess labour, materials and installation costs and manage tender deadlines.

Qualifications

• At least 3 years of estimating experience in commercial construction including stone/tiling finishes.
• Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings, specs and scopes of work.
• Hands-on experience with take-off software (CostX/Bluebeam/PlanSwift) and advanced Excel skills.

About the Role Australasian Stone is seeking a skilled and reliable Construction Estimator to join our growing team in Mount Waverley. As a premier provider of waterproofing, tiling, and stone masonry services across Melbourne's commercial and civil construction sectors, we take pride in the precision and craftsmanship of everything we deliver. In this role, you will work alongside a team of over 100 dedicated trade professionals, contributing to projects that range from commercial high-rises to civil infrastructure developments.

Key Responsibilities

The Estimator will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive tenders for commercial stone and tiling projects, including reviewing architectural drawings, specifications and scopes of work, completing detailed quantity take-offs, calculating labour, materials, fabrication, installation, plant, equipment and subcontractor costs, obtaining and analyzing supplier quotations, identifying project risks, exclusions and assumptions, developing accurate pricing and margins, and ensuring all tenders are submitted on time and to a high standard. The Estimator will work closely with the Director, Contracts, Business Development, Factory and Operations teams to ensure pricing is commercially sound and achievable, maintain strong relationships with suppliers and builders, negotiate pricing where required, identify opportunities to improve project margins and methodologies, and provide a clear handover of successful tenders to the project team.

About You

• At least 3 years' estimating experience in commercial construction, ideally pricing trade packages such as stone, tiling, waterproofing, facades or other finishes
• Strong ability to read and interpret architectural drawings, specifications and scopes of work
• Hands-on experience with take-off software such as CostX, Bluebeam or PlanSwift, plus advanced Excel skills
• A solid understanding of labour, materials, fabrication and installation costs, and how they drive margin
• A sharp eye for risk: you know what to exclude, what to qualify and what to push back on
• The ability to run several tenders at once and meet every deadline without cutting corners
• Confidence dealing with builders, suppliers and internal teams, including negotiating on price
• A current driver's licence and full Australian working rights
• A qualification in construction management, quantity surveying or building estimating is highly regarded.
