Job summary

Herax Construction Pty Ltd (aka Square Construction Group) in Adelaide is seeking an experienced Construction Estimator to prepare accurate cost estimates for residential and commercial projects from tendering through construction. You will analyse project requirements, coordinate pricing from suppliers and subcontractors, and prepare budgets and tender submissions.

The role requires strong interpretation of drawings, materials knowledge, and negotiation skills.

Qualifications

• At least 5 years experience in construction estimating or a closely related role.
• Strong ability to interpret architectural drawings, construction plans and specifications.
• Sound knowledge of construction materials, methods, labour requirements and subcontractor pricing.
• Experience preparing quantity take-offs, project estimates, tenders and construction budgets.
• Strong numerical, analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Good communication and negotiation skills with suppliers, subcontractors and project stakeholders.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and relevant estimating or construction management software.

Responsibilities

• Review architectural drawings, plans, specs and regulations to determine scope and estimating requirements.
• Prepare detailed cost estimates and quantity take-offs for materials, labour, equipment and subcontractors.
• Obtain and evaluate quotations from suppliers and subcontractors and prepare cost comparisons.
• Coordinate with clients, architects, engineers, managers, site personnel and suppliers to clarify requirements and adjust estimates for changes.
• Prepare tender estimates, project budgets and other cost information to support planning and delivery.
• Monitor project costs and expenditures, including variations and changes in scope.
• Compare actual vs forecast costs and report variances to management.
• Maintain accurate estimating records, cost databases, supplier pricing and subcontractor rates.
• Review construction methods and materials to identify cost efficiencies while maintaining quality.

With a strong focus on quality, practical project delivery and client satisfaction, we work closely with clients, suppliers, subcontractors and other project stakeholders throughout the construction process. As our project portfolio continues to grow, we are seeking an experienced Construction Estimator to join our team in Adelaide.

About the Role

The Construction Estimator will be responsible for preparing accurate and commercially competitive cost estimates for residential and commercial construction projects. The role will support projects from the initial estimating and tendering stage through to construction by assessing project requirements, analysing costs and coordinating pricing information from suppliers and subcontractors.

Key Responsibilities

• Review and interpret architectural drawings, construction plans, specifications, building regulations and other project documentation to determine project scope and estimating requirements.
• Prepare detailed cost estimates and quantity take-offs for construction projects, including materials, labour, equipment and subcontractor costs, and assist in estimating project timeframes.
• Obtain and evaluate quotations from suppliers and subcontractors and prepare cost comparisons to support procurement and subcontractor selection.
• Liaise with clients, architects, engineers, project managers, site personnel, suppliers and subcontractors to clarify project requirements, resolve pricing matters and update estimates where project scope or design changes occur.
• Prepare tender estimates, project budgets and other cost information to support project planning, scheduling and construction delivery.
• Monitor project costs and expenditures throughout construction, including variations and changes in material, labour and subcontractor costs.
• Compare actual and forecast project costs against approved estimates and tender allowances, identify cost variances and provide regular cost reports to management.
• Maintain accurate estimating records, cost databases, supplier pricing and subcontractor rates to support consistent and reliable project costing.
• Review construction methods, material selections and alternative solutions to identify opportunities for cost efficiencies while maintaining project requirements and quality standards.
• Review completed project costs against original estimates and use historical cost information to improve the accuracy of future estimates and tenders.
