Job summary

The Salvation Army Australia is seeking a casual Support Worker for the Bridge House Sobering Up Unit in WA. You will support participants under the influence, monitor wellbeing, and maintain a safe environment across a 24-hour roster, with duties including documentation and safety protocols.

Reporting to the Team Leader Support Services, this role offers SCHADS Level 3 pay and flexible hours. A compassionate, trauma-informed approach is essential for daily shifts and best practice in care.

Qualifications

• Certificate IV in Community Services, AOD or Mental Health (or equivalent experience).
• Understanding of AOD types, effects and withdrawal processes.
• Experience supporting people with complex needs is highly regarded.
• Current WA driver’s licence.
• Current First Aid and CPR (or willingness to obtain).
• Ability to work across a 24-hour roster including nights, weekends and public holidays.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
• Commitment to culturally safe, inclusive and person-centred practice.

Responsibilities

• Provide safe, trauma-informed support to participants in the Sobering Up Unit.
• Monitor wellbeing through regular checks and observations.
• Respond confidently to challenging or high-risk situations.
• Support participants through AOD withdrawal and document progress.
• Maintain safety, security and evacuation protocols.
• Promote Salvation Army activities and engagement with chaplaincy.
• Keep accurate records, shift notes and incident reports.
• Bring steadiness, compassion and professionalism to every shift.
