Job summary

The Rev. Bill Crews Foundation is looking for a passionate and creative Chef to join Crews Café in Ashfield. The casual role offers approximately 12–20 hours per week across weekday shifts, delivering simple, delicious meals with care to our community.

You will lead daily food preparation, develop menus with seasonal and donated produce, and ensure a clean, safe kitchen while providing a welcoming café experience to staff, volunteers and visitors.

Qualifications

• Experience in a commercial kitchen, café or similar food service environment.
• Ability to manage day-to-day operations within a small kitchen.
• Fresh ideas and enthusiasm for menu development and improvement.
• Strong understanding of food safety, hygiene and safe kitchen practices.
• Effective organisational and time management skills.
• Reliability and flexibility across weekday shifts.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work positively with staff, volunteers and people from diverse backgrounds.
• Genuine commitment to BCF’s mission and values.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and cook food for daily café service.
• Create and rotate daily and weekly specials.
• Help develop and implement a refreshed menu that is simple, tasty and suited to our community.
• Bring fresh ideas to the kitchen and identify opportunities to continually improve our food offering.
• Maintain a clean, safe and organised kitchen in accordance with food safety and hygiene requirements.
• Manage stock levels, rotate inventory and minimise food waste.
• Make creative and practical use of seasonal and donated produce.
• Monitor food quality, presentation and consistency.
• Work collaboratively with staff and volunteers to support smooth café operations.
• Support effective kitchen processes and service delivery.
• Contribute to a positive, inclusive and respectful workplace culture.
