Job summary

Bob's Bakery on Hamilton Island is seeking a Commis Chef with a passion for pastry to join our busy pastry team. You will work alongside an experienced Pastry Chef de Partie and Pastry Cook, producing and decorating a wide range of sweet creations for guests and events.

Shifts start early around 6am and run until about 3:30pm, with opportunities to learn and grow in a vibrant island kitchen. Staff accommodation is subsidised and available to join the team.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in a commercial pastry, bakery or kitchen environment.
• Practical experience preparing cakes, desserts and other sweet baked goods.
• Cake decorating and finishing skills, with strong attention to presentation
• Confidence following recipes and producing consistent results
• Good organisation and ability to work efficiently in a busy production kitchen
• A positive, team-focused attitude and willingness to learn from senior chefs
• Availability to work early morning shifts

Responsibilities

• Hands-on preparing, producing, decorating and finishing a variety of pastry products, including dessert slices, celebration cakes, wedding cakes, cookies and puddings.
• Work closely with the Pastry Chef de Partie and Pastry Cook to maintain quality and presentation across daily production.
• Operate on early shifts, generally starting around 6am and finishing by 3.30pm.

Located along Front Street overlooking Hamilton Island Marina, Bob's Bakery is a busy island favourite producing fresh breads, pastries, cakes and baked goods for guests and venues across Hamilton Island. Our pastry team creates everything from individual desserts and sweet treats to celebration and wedding cakes.

We're looking for a Commis Chef with a passion for pastry to join our team. Working alongside an experienced Pastry Chef de Partie and Pastry Cook, you'll be hands-on producing, decorating and finishing a wide variety of sweet creations. With early morning starts and afternoon finishes, this is a great opportunity to develop your pastry skills in a busy production environment while enjoying island life.

What you'll be doing

You’ll be hands-on preparing, producing, decorating and finishing a variety of pastry products, including dessert slices, celebration cakes, wedding cakes, cookies and puddings.

Working closely with the Pastry Chef de Partie and Pastry Cook, you’ll help maintain consistent quality and presentation across daily production. You’ll need to be organised, comfortable working to production deadlines and take pride in the finer details of decorating and finishing your creations.

Shifts generally commence between 6am, finishing between by 3.30pm with time to enjoy the rest of your day exploring the island!
