Job summary

Parklife Metro JV, leading the Sydney Metro - Western Sydney Airport project, seeks a Downstream Commercial Manager based in North Sydney. You will lead the downstream commercial function and oversee subcontractor and supplier agreements.

Reporting to the Deputy Commercial Director, you will drive contract administration, cost management, negotiations, risk mitigation and ensure contractual compliance across the project lifecycle.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Commerce, Law or a related discipline.
• Extensive experience in a commercial management role within major infrastructure, construction, engineering or rail projects.
• Experience on major transport infrastructure, rail, metro or PPP projects is desirable.
• Excellent stakeholder management, negotiation and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead the downstream commercial function, directing subcontract and supplier activities.
• Ensure subcontract agreements align with head contract requirements.
• Manage contractual correspondence, variations, and claims.
• Provide commercial guidance on entitlements, obligations, and risk.
• Develop and maintain relationships with subcontractors and external stakeholders.
• Mentor and develop the downstream commercial team.

This visionary project driven by a joint venture between Plenary, RATP Dev, Siemens, and Webuild includes the construction of six new stations, 12 state-of-the-art metro trains, advanced rail systems, and a modern stabling and maintenance facility at Orchard Hills.

The Opportunity:

Employed by Webuild, Parklife Metro is seeking a Downstream Commercial Manager to join our team based in North Sydney.

As a Commercial Manager for Downstream, you will lead and manage the downstream commercial function across the project, ensuring the effective administration and commercial management of subcontractor and supplier agreements.

Reporting to the Deputy Commercial Director, this role will provide strategic and operational commercial support across the project lifecycle, with a particular focus on contract administration, commercial negotiations, cost management, risk mitigation and contractual compliance.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Lead the downstream commercial function, providing direction and oversight of subcontract and supplier commercial activities
• Ensure subcontract agreements are aligned with head contract requirements, project specifications and commercial objectives
• Manage contractual correspondence, notices, variations, extensions of time and claims in accordance with contractual obligations
• Provide commercial advice and guidance to project teams on contractual entitlements, obligations and risk exposure
• Ensure effective management and close-out of subcontract agreements
• Monitor subcontractor performance against contractual obligations, deliverables, milestones and agreed commercial terms
• Develop and maintain effective commercial relationships with subcontractors, suppliers and external stakeholders
• Support the resolution of subcontractor claims and disputes, ensuring appropriate commercial outcomes are achieved
• Lead, mentor and develop the downstream commercial team, including Contract Managers, Senior Contract Administrators, Contract Administrators and Site Administrators.

Criteria:

• Tertiary qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Commerce, Law or a related discipline.Extensive experience in a commercial management role within major infrastructure, construction, engineering or rail projects
• Demonstrated experience managing downstream subcontract agreements and commercial functions on large-scale projects
• Experience working on major transport infrastructure, rail, metro or PPP projects is desirable
• Excellent stakeholder management, negotiation and communication skillsDemonstrated ability to lead and develop commercial teams
