Job summary

Webuild is seeking a Downstream Commercial Manager to lead the downstream commercial function for Parklife Metro in North Sydney. You will oversee subcontract and supplier commercial activities, ensure alignment with head contract requirements, and guide negotiations, risk management, and contract compliance across the project lifecycle.

The role focuses on strategic and operational support, contract administration, and the development of a high-performing commercial team within a landmark PPP

Qualifications

• Bachelor-level degree or higher in a relevant discipline.
• Proven experience in commercial management on major infrastructure projects.
• Experience with downstream subcontract agreements and commercial functions.

Responsibilities

• Lead the downstream commercial function across the project subs and suppliers.
• Ensure subcontract agreements align with head contract and commercial objectives.
• Manage contractual notices, variations, extensions of time, and claims.
• Provide commercial guidance on entitlements, obligations and risk.
• Oversee close-out of subcontract agreements and monitor performance.
• Develop relationships with subcontractors and external stakeholders.
• Assist in resolving subcontractor claims and disputes.
• Mentor and develop the downstream commercial team.

The Opportunity:

Employed byWebuild, Parklife Metro is seeking a Downstream Commercial Manager to join our team based in North Sydney.

As a Commercial Manager for Downstream, you will lead and manage the downstream commercial function across the project, ensuring the effective administration and commercial management of subcontractor and supplier agreements.

Reporting to the Deputy Commercial Director, this role will provide strategic and operational commercial support across the project lifecycle, with a particular focus on contract administration, commercial negotiations, cost management, risk mitigation and contractual compliance.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Lead the downstream commercial function, providing direction and oversight of subcontract and supplier commercial activities
• Ensure subcontract agreements are aligned with head contract requirements, project specifications and commercial objectives
• Manage contractual correspondence, notices, variations, extensions of time and claims in accordance with contractual obligations
• Provide commercial advice and guidance to project teams on contractual entitlements, obligations and risk exposure
• Ensure effective management and close-out of subcontract agreements
• Monitor subcontractor performance against contractual obligations, deliverables, milestones and agreed commercial terms
• Develop and maintain effective commercial relationships with subcontractors, suppliers and external stakeholders
• Support the resolution of subcontractor claims and disputes, ensuring appropriate commercial outcomes are achieved
• Lead, mentor and develop the downstream commercial team, including Contract Managers, Senior Contract Administrators, Contract Administrators and Site Administrators.

Criteria:

• Tertiary qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Commerce, Law or a related discipline. Extensive experience in a commercial management role within major infrastructure, construction, engineering or rail projects
• Demonstrated experience managing downstream subcontract agreements and commercial functions on large-scale projects
• Experience working on major transport infrastructure, rail, metro or PPP projects is desirable
• Excellent stakeholder management, negotiation and communication skills. Demonstrated ability to lead and develop commercial teams
