McMahon Services is seeking a driven Commercial Manager for its Environmental Services stream in Australia. You will be the commercial voice on projects, ensuring contracts stay compliant and well managed from tender through close-out.

You will lead a team of Commercial Advisors, own the stream's risk register, and influence budgeting, forecasting and governance across the business. Strong relationship skills and a background in construction are essential.

• 7+ years in commercial management, with 5+ in construction.

Responsibilities

• Be the commercial partner for project teams from tender to close-out.

About The Role

This is a standout opportunity to step into a high-impact role at the heart of our Environmental Services stream. As Commercial Manager, you’ll be the commercial voice on projects that make a lasting difference, partnering with delivery teams to keep every contract compliant, watertight and well managed while protecting the business and setting projects up to succeed. You’ll lead and mentor a team of Commercial Advisors and own the stream’s risk register and commercial governance, with real influence over how we manage risk and deliver. This role is as much about people as it is about contracts. Sitting at the interface between the field, our Chief Risk & Compliance Officer and the Executive General Manager of Environmental Services, you’ll connect the dots across the business, so exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to build trusted relationships at every level are essential. Commercial management experience in building and construction is a must, and a contracting organisation background is highly regarded. What You Will Do

• Be the commercial partner our project teams trust - keeping contracts compliant, watertight and well managed from tender through to close-out.
• Lead, mentor and inspire a team of Commercial Advisors, building their capability and confidence in commercial and financial management.
• Build strong relationships across the business, working hand in hand with Legal, Finance, Procurement, Tendering and Operations to secure and deliver "best for business" outcomes.
• Own the stream's risk register and commercial governance, spotting risks early and negotiating with customers and subcontractors to resolve variations and disputes before they escalated.
• Shape the numbers that matter - contributing to the stream's budget, forecasting and financial performance reporting for senior leaders.
• Champion our systems and processes and lead change across the stream, with our RISE values at the forefront of every decision.

What You Will Bring

• Commercial management experience in building and construction, with a strong understanding of contracts, risk and the commercial realities of project delivery (7+ years in commercial management, including 5+ in construction).
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated ability to build trust, influence with confidence and manage relationships at all levels - from site teams to executives and customers.
• Strong contract administration and negotiation skills, with the analytical ability and attention to detail to stay on top of variations, extensions of time and claims under pressure.
• Proven leadership and coaching skills, with a genuine passion for developing people and leading change in a team environment.
• Relevant tertiary qualifications in commercial, business, accounting, supply chain or a related discipline (or equivalent industry experience).

What Will Set You Apart

• Experience within a contracting organisation, with first-hand insight into what it takes to deliver projects in the field.
• Experience with ERP and project platforms such as Pronto, SAP, Oracle, Procore or Aconex.
• A track record of embedding systems and processes that teams genuinely adopt and value.
• Experience mentoring and training others in commercial management, procurement and systems.
• You don't need to tick every box on paper - great people skills, a strong commercial mindset and a drive to keep learning will take you a long way.
