Central Steel Build in Australia is seeking a hands-on Commercial Analyst to drive profitability across project-based work. You will analyse quoted versus delivered margins, monitor WIP, and develop insights to maximise project outcomes.
Reporting to the CFO, you’ll collaborate with Finance, Operations, Sales, Procurement and Project Managers to improve pricing accuracy and identify revenue leakage. A lean, data-driven mindset and advanced Excel/Power BI skills are essential.
At Central Steel Build, we design, manufacture and deliver commercial steel buildings across Australia. Every project is different, which means every job presents unique commercial challenges and opportunities.
This is a hands‑on commercial finance role in a project-driven business. It will suit an analytical professional who wants to understand where project margins are won and lost, and who enjoys turning data into meaningful business decisions.
Reporting directly to the CFO, you'll play a key role in analysing commercial performance, improving pricing accuracy, and helping the business maximise profitability. Working closely with Finance, Operations, Sales, Procurement and Project Managers, you'll track quoted versus delivered margin, identify revenue leakage, and provide insights that drive better project outcomes.
Because every building we deliver is custom engineered, no two projects are the same. You'll lead post-project "Hotwash" reviews, monitor variations through to invoicing, analyse changing market costs, and provide early visibility of commercial risks before they impact results.
Analyse quoted versus delivered margins and prepare monthly gross profit and project margin reviews across live projects.
Support monthly Work in Progress (WIP) reporting, including accruals, cost-to-complete and margin forecasts.
Maintain the variations and claims register, tracking variations through pricing, approval and invoicing.
Identify and report emerging commercial risks and opportunities across the project portfolio.
Analyse key cost drivers and market trends to keep pricing assumptions in our estimating models accurate.
Deliver monthly commercial reporting, KPI dashboards (Power BI), budget inputs, business forecasting and variance analysis.
Support business case development, scenario analysis and financial modelling for capital investment, pricing strategy, supplier and growth initiatives.
Work with Sales, Operations, Project Management and Engineering to align commercial outcomes throughout project delivery.
Support post-project reviews and continuous improvement through Lean principles, root cause analysis and process documentation.
3-5 years' experience in a commercial analyst, financial analyst or similar role, including at least 2 years in a project-based environment, ideally construction, manufacturing or engineering.
Strong understanding of job costing, WIP, variations and commercial risk, with experience analysing project financial performance, cost drivers and margin impacts.
Advanced Excel and financial modelling capabilities.
Experience with ERP and BI reporting systems, ideally NetSuite and Power BI.
Tertiary qualifications in Commerce, Accounting, Finance or a related discipline; CA/CPA (or progressing) desirable.
Exposure to Lean, continuous improvement or AI-powered tools that support reporting and analysis will be highly regarded.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
A naturally curious mindset with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Excellent attention to detail and a strong sense of ownership and accountability.
The confidence to present insights and recommendations to management and project teams.
Strong relationship‑building skills and the ability to influence stakeholders across the business.
The ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and manage competing priorities.
Join a growing Australian business with ambitious growth plans.
Work directly with the CFO and gain exposure to key commercial and strategic decisions.
Play a visible role in shaping project profitability and business performance.
Access industry‑leading systems including NetSuite and HubSpot.
Attractive salary package with genuine career progression opportunities.

We achieve more through trust, collaboration and shared goals.
We challenge ourselves to improve every day and embrace better ways of working.
We foster a positive, humble and supportive workplace where people are valued.
