Job summary

Bring your finance experience to a practical, growing business

Steelcorp is seeking an experienced and commercially minded Finance Manager to join our team at our Wangaratta headquarters.

This is a hands-on role supporting the Head of Finance and overseeing the day-to-day finance function across Steelcorp and its related businesses. You will lead our Bookkeeper, strengthen financial reporting and controls, and help operational teams better understand project and business performance.

The position also includes responsibility for client progress claims and trade subcontractor administration. It would therefore suit someone with experience in construction, manufacturing or another project-based environment.

We are particularly open to hearing from strong senior bookkeepers/accountants who can own the finance desk and manage our existing processing resource. Perhaps your looking to return to the workforce or move back into a meaningful local role. Flexible working arrangements may be considered for the right candidate; however, the position will be primarily based at our Wangaratta headquarters.

About the role

Reporting to the Head of Finance, you will take ownership of the day-to-day finance function across Steelcorp and its related businesses.

You’ll be responsible for:

Day-to-day finance, month-end and management reporting

Cash flow, budgeting and forecasting

Project financials including claims, WIP, variations and retentions

Oversight of AP, AR, payroll and statutory requirements

Managing our existing finance processing resource

About you

We’re looking for someone who understands construction finance, enjoys being hands-on and can confidently own the finance function.

You will ideally bring:

Five or more years’ experience in accounting, finance management or a senior finance position

Strong experience with month-end reporting, budgeting, cash flow, accounts payable and accounts receivable

Sound knowledge of Australian GST, BAS, payroll, superannuation and financial compliance requirements

Experience supervising, mentoring or developing finance team members

Strong Microsoft Excel and accounting-system skills

Excellent attention to detail and the ability to meet important deadlines

The confidence to communicate financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders

A practical, commercially focused and solutions-oriented approach

Experience in construction, manufacturing or a project-based business will be highly regarded, particularly if you have worked with:

Project accounting, job costing, work in progress and margin reporting

Construction progress claims, variations and retentions

Trade subcontractor agreements and payment claims

A degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce or a related discipline is desired but not essential.
