Job summary

Virgin Active is opening a flagship club in Sydney CBD, led by a founding executive who will shape people, culture and the member experience from day one. You’ll drive pre-opening plans, recruit and mentor the leadership team, and build the commercial engine to deliver strong performance.

You’ll combine strategic thinking with hands-on leadership in a fast-paced environment, ensuring exceptional guest experiences while growing memberships and partnerships across Sydney and beyond.

Qualifications

• Experience leading large multi-functional teams and delivering commercial results.
• 5+ years senior leadership with full P&L accountability.
• Ability to translate strategy into action and drive performance.
• Strong customer experience focus and ability to create consistent experiences.

Reporting to the Experience Director, you'll lead all aspects of club performance across people, sales, service, fitness, swim, food & beverage and facilities.

You’ll be the founding leader of Wynyard, set to open in early 2027, setting the standard for its people, performance, culture and member experience from day one.

Located in the heart of Wynyard, this stunning new club will offer premium training spaces, boutique group exercise studios, recovery experiences and exceptional hospitality, creating a wellness destination unlike anything else in Sydney CBD.

In this role, you’ll:

• Lead the club through pre-opening, launch and beyond, creating a clear plan for people, operations, sales and member experience
• Drive a high-impact pre-sale strategy, building local awareness, commercial partnerships and early member momentum in the Sydney CBD market
• Recruit, onboard and develop a high-performing leadership team
• Create a culture where people love to work, grow and perform
• Deliver revenue, EBITDA and productivity targets
• Build the club’s commercial engine, driving membership growth, retention, corporate partnerships and performance across all revenue streams
• Ensure exceptional execution of the Virgin Active member experience
• Lead operational excellence, governance, safety and compliance standards
• Align departments behind one clear vision and commercial plan
• Develop future leaders and build succession pipelines across the club
• Lead service recovery and elevate member satisfaction outcomes
• Create an environment where accountability, ownership and teamwork thrive
• Represent the club across regional and national leadership forums
• Drive innovation and continuous improvement opportunities

All about you

• You’ve successfully led large, multi-functional teams and delivered strong commercial results
• You have at least 5 years’ senior leadership experience with full P&L accountability
• You know how to balance people, performance and profit without compromising culture
• You build strong teams and aren’t afraid to have difficult conversations when needed
• You understand what great customer experiences look like and how to create them consistently
• You can turn strategy into action and bring people on the journey
• You’re commercially savvy and naturally look for opportunities to improve performance
• You create environments where people feel supported, challenged and inspired to do their best work
• You’re comfortable operating in a fast-paced environment where priorities can shift quickly
