Job summary

Medibank in Melbourne is seeking a Cloud Engineer – AI & Data to design, deploy and govern cloud environments across AWS and Azure, with a focus on AI and data platforms. You will apply IaC, automation and security best practices to deliver scalable, compliant solutions.

You’ll collaborate with Data, AI and Tech teams, operate with Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible, and modern cloud services, and contribute to governance, cost control and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• 2-5 years' experience as a Cloud Engineer with strong AWS experience.
• Proven experience designing and deploying cloud environments using Infrastructure as Code.
• Experience supporting data, analytics and AI/ML workloads in AWS.
• Familiarity with AWS AI services including Bedrock, SageMaker, Q, Comprehend, Textract and Kendra.
• Strong AWS administration experience.
• Experience with AWS services: S3, Glue, Athena, Redshift, EMR, SageMaker, Bedrock.
• Experience with serverless and container technologies including Lambda, Docker, ECS, EKS and Fargate.
• Strong understanding of cloud security and governance practices.
• Experience with Python and Linux shell scripting.
• Experience using Git and CI/CD tools such as Jenkins and GitHub.
• Experience working in Agile delivery environments.
• Nice to have: AWS Solutions Architect certification.

Responsibilities

• Design, build and maintain cloud environments across AWS and Azure.

• Ensure compliance with regulatory, privacy and security requirements.
• Enforce Medibank's cloud governance standards and runbooks.
• Monitor, audit and remediate across cloud environments.
• Monitor and support cloud infrastructure for availability and performance.
• Manage change, release, incident and problem management processes.
• Maintain operational documentation and runbooks.
• Contribute to cloud reliability and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Build relationships with stakeholders; document requirements and support delivery.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a high-performing Cloud Engineering team and play a key role in designing, automating and governing cloud environments across AWS and Azure, with a particular focus on AI and data platforms.

The Opportunity

As a Cloud Engineer – AI & Data, you will be responsible for designing, deploying, automating and supporting cloud environments that enable Medibank's applications, data products and AI solutions to operate securely, efficiently and at scale.

Working closely with Cloud Engineering, Data, AI and Technology teams, you'll leverage Infrastructure as Code, cloud-native services and automation tools to deliver highly available, secure and cost-effective solutions while ensuring compliance with Medibank's governance and security standards.

Cloud Engineering & Automation

• Design, build and maintain cloud environments across AWS and Azure.
• Develop Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions using Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible or similar tools.
• Automate cloud provisioning, deployment and operational processes.
• Continuously evaluate and implement emerging cloud capabilities and managed services.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver scalable cloud solutions.

Data & AI Enablement

• Build and operate cloud platforms that support data, analytics and AI/ML workloads.
• Design and support AWS-based AI solutions using services such as Bedrock, SageMaker, Amazon Q, Comprehend, Textract and Kendra.
• Support governance, classification and lifecycle management of AI solutions across development, test and production environments.
• Assist in the secure, responsible and cost-effective adoption of AI technologies.
• Partner with Data and AI teams to enable innovative use cases while ensuring operational excellence.

Security & Governance

• Apply cloud security best practices and the Principle of Least Privilege.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory, privacy and security requirements.
• Enforce Medibank's cloud governance standards and operational controls.
• Support monitoring, auditing and remediation activities across cloud environments.

Operations & Cloud Administration

• Monitor and support cloud infrastructure to maintain availability and performance.
• Manage change, release, incident and problem management processes.
• Maintain operational documentation, standards and runbooks.
• Act as a key contributor to cloud reliability, resilience and continuous improvement initiatives.

Stakeholder Engagement

• Build strong relationships with technical and business stakeholders.
• Gather, analyse and document requirements for cloud initiatives.
• Contribute to project planning, estimation and delivery activities.
• Facilitate workshops and collaborate across cross-functional teams to deliver outcomes.

About You
