Job summary

NSW Health’s Westmead MOCTU unit invites applications for a Clinical Trials Manager – Oncology Trials to lead planning, execution, expansion and continuous improvement of the MOCTU service, and to manage resources including personnel, finances and infrastructure.

The role requires extensive experience in medical oncology clinical research and trials, proven leadership, and ability to collaborate with sponsors and industry.

Qualifications

• Relevant health related qualification and/or experience in the field of medical oncology clinical research and clinical trials.
• Extensive experience running clinical trials at site (public or private hospital).
• Demonstrated excellent leadership skills either as a line manager or as a mentor/trainer to Clinical Trial Coordinator role.
• Experience working in, or dealing with, sponsors and industry.
• Previous experience in clinical trial audits either Sponsor lead or regulatory body audits (for cause audits also acceptable).
• Demonstrated high level interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, such as negotiation and report writing applicable in both a research and administrative context.
• Demonstrated understanding of the legislation, codes and guidelines relevant to clinical and research ethics, and the NHMRC National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research, relevant privacy acts and guidelines, the Human Tissue Act, and the Therapeutic Goods Act as it relates to use of medications in human research
• Proven highly developed delegation skills and staff coaching skills.

In the last 15 years, the Westmead Medical Oncology Clinical Trial Unit (MOCTU) has undergone rapid expansion. Currently, the Unit employs a large team of highly qualified and experienced staff, including clinical trial coordinators, administrators, trial start-up officers, regulatory officers and financial administrators. The trial unit has around 90 active trials, ranging from phase 1 first-in-human to phase 4 trials with a high volume of recruitment.
