Job summary

Shepparton Private Hospital Care in Shepparton VIC is seeking a Casual clinical coder or a newly qualified Clinical Coder to join our Clinical Coding team. The role involves accurately and timely assigning diagnosis and procedure codes for admitted patient episodes in a private hospital setting and collaborating with Health Information Services, Finance and clinical teams.

You should be an experienced coder with excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills.

Qualifications

• Experienced clinical coder with strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
• Knowledge of ICD-10-AM, ACHI and ACS coding standards.
• Experience or familiarity with private hospital billing is desirable but not essential.

Responsibilities

• Assign accurate diagnosis and procedure codes for admitted patient episodes.
• Collaborate with Health Information Services, Finance and clinical teams.
• Participate in coding audits and resolve coding queries.

Exciting new opportunity for a Casualclinical coder or a newly qualified Clinical Coder to join our Clinical Coding team at Shepparton Private Hospital.

About the Role

The Clinical Coder is responsible for accurately and timely assigning diagnosis and procedure codes for admitted patient episodes in a private hospital setting. The role ensures coded data complies with national and jurisdictional requirements to support activity-based funding, billing, statistical reporting, and quality improvement. The position works collaboratively with Health Information Services, Finance, and clinical teams, participates in coding audits, resolves coding-related queries, and maintains currency with evolving coding standards and clinical documentation requirements.

About you

To be successful in this role you will be an experienced clinical coder with highly developed interpersonal skills and problem-solving abilities. You will be a self-motivated with excellent organisation and prioritisation skills. Knowledge and experience of private hospital billing is desirable but not essential.

You will also demonstrate

• ICD-10-AM (International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems, Tenth Revision, Australian Modification)
• ACHI (Australian Classification of Health Interventions)
• Australian Coding Standards (ACS)
• National and State/Territory Coding Advice
• Computer-assisted coding tools such as 3M Codefinder (or equivalent)
