Job summary

Cairns Private Hospital is seeking a dedicated Clinical Coder to join our team on a permanent full-time basis. You will ensure accurate abstracting and coding for discharged patients in line with Australian Coding Standards, supporting data quality and compliance.

The role requires completion of HIMAA Clinical Coding course or equivalent, with a minimum of 3 years FTE coding experience, ability to code autonomously across specialties, and proficiency with Solventum Codefinder and Meditech.

Cairns Private Hospital is seeking a dedicated and experienced Clinical Coder to join our team on a permanent full time basis!

About The Role

As a Clinical Coder, you will play a vital role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of our patient data.

Key responsibilities include:

• Providing accurate and timely abstracting and disease procedure coding for each patient discharged by the hospital. You will ensure adherence to the relevant Australian Coding Standards and applicable State Coding Advice.
• Supporting the relevant Manager by ensuring data is collected, collated, and managed in line with hospital and legislative requirements.
• Participating in and supporting the relevant Manager with quality activities. This mayincludeinternal and external clinical coding audits, and mentoring Trainee's as well as Qualified Clinical Coders.

About You:

• Completion of Health Information Management Association of Australia (HIMAA) Clinical Coding Course; Associate Diploma or Bachelor of Applied Science, Medical Record Administration or Health Information Management; or similar relevant tertiary qualification

Other:

• Eligible for membership with the HIMAA.
• Demonstrated current high-level experience in Clinical Coding including a minimum of 3 years fulltime equivalent hours (FTE) coding experience (post training) coding a similar case mix to that of the recruiting facility.
• Demonstrated ability to code autonomously and competently across a full range of clinical specialties.
• Understanding of the relationship between clinical coding, Casemix, DRG classifications systems and funding models.
• Demonstrated interest in clinical coding, highly developed ability to self-manage and a positive "can-do" attitude.
• Excellent time management and organisational skills.
• High degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
• Ability to work effectively within a team environment and independently as required.
• Commitment to professional development through quality activities, constructive feedback and mentoring.
• Sound computer literacy and skills within the Microsoft Office Suite
• Experience in using Solventum Codefinder software
• Experience with patient administration software Meditech
• Previous Private Hospital experience.
• Previous experience with a Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) Program.

Remuneration:

On offer is a base hourly rate ranging from $46.35 - $55.19+ superannuation based on experience level and qualifications.
