Job summary

LifeStrands Genomics Australia Pty Ltd is seeking a Clinical Bioinformatician to develop, validate, and maintain bioinformatics pipelines supporting multiomic testing in an accredited diagnostic environment. You will work with lab, clinical, and IT teams to ensure timely, accurate genomic results that inform patient care.

The role emphasizes implementing new technologies, biomarkers, and compliant data governance, with a focus on data integrity and patient safety within regulatory frameworks.

Qualifications

• Postgraduate qualification (Master’s or PhD) in bioinformatics or related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
• Knowledge of molecular biology, cancer genomics, NGS technologies and genomic data analysis.
• Programming proficiency in R, shell scripting and at least one additional language; familiarity with APIs and common genomic file formats.
• Experience with Linux/Unix and version control systems, preferably Git/GitHub.
• Understanding of clinical diagnostic testing, analytical performance, data integrity and patient safety.
• Strong problem-solving, troubleshooting, documentation and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain and troubleshoot software, scripts and pipelines for genomic and transcriptomic analysis.
• Support integration of sequencing platforms, LIMS, bioinformatics applications and reporting systems.
• Contribute to the implementation of new technologies, biomarkers and testing methodologies.
• Validate and verify bioinformatics pipelines before clinical implementation and following relevant changes.
• Evaluate analytical performance and monitor quality metrics to identify issues or trends.
• Assess and document the impact of software, pipeline, database and infrastructure changes.
• Participate in quality assurance, risk assessments and continuous improvement.
• Develop and maintain SOPs, validation records, technical documentation and training materials.
• Collaborate with laboratory, clinical, scientific, IT and management teams to support efficient molecular testing.
• Communicate technical findings, limitations and recommendations to multidisciplinary audiences.
• Maintain professional competence through ongoing development and engagement with technical and regulatory advances.
