Job summary

Borepoint Drilling & Excavation, paired with Complete Earthing in Canberra, is looking for a labourer we can train and develop for a long-term role. You’ll start by learning the basics on site and gradually take on more responsibility as you gain skills, licences, and experience in drilling and electrical earthing.

We’re a small, supportive crew that works together, values a strong attitude, and invites you to grow into specialised tasks like bore drilling, hydrovac work, and earthing

Qualifications

• Driver’s licence and Construction White Card are required.
• MR/HR licences are a bonus if applicable.
• Willingness to learn and contribute to a small crew.

Responsibilities

• Learn to operate excavators and civil plant.
• Develop understanding of ground, plan jobs, and look after equipment.
• Be proactive and engage with drilling and earthing tasks.
• Work collaboratively in a tight-knit Canberra team.

Want to learn skills that most people in civil never get the chance to?

We’re looking for the next person to join our crew.

Not just another labourer.

We’re looking for someone we can train, develop and hopefully have as part of the team for years to come.

Borepoint is a small Canberra-based drilling and civil business, working alongside our specialist earthing division, Complete Earthing.

Between the two businesses, we get to do some pretty interesting stuff — and we’re looking for someone who wants to learn it.

Come in as a labourer. Don’t stay one.

You don’t need to turn up knowing how to operate every machine.

You don’t need to know anything about electrical earthing.

We’ll teach you.

You’ll start working alongside our crew and learn the basics properly. As you become more capable, we’ll progressively give you opportunities to develop into areas that interest you.

Learn to operate machinery properly

Not just getting a ticket and knowing which lever does what.

We want to develop people into genuinely capable operators.

You’ll have the opportunity to learn:

• Excavators and civil plant

• Horizontal directional drilling

• Hydrovac equipment

• Specialist drilling rigs

• Underground service installation

• Working safely around existing underground infrastructure

You’ll learn how to understand the machine, understand the ground, plan the job and look after the equipment you’re trusted with.

Learn specialist electrical earthing

This is where things get a little different.

Through Complete Earthing, you’ll also have the opportunity to learn a specialised part of the electrical infrastructure industry.

That can include:

• Installing substation earth mats

• Drilling and installing deep earth electrodes

• Earthing conductors and connections

• Soil resistivity testing

• Earthing system testing

• Working around substations and electrical infrastructure

• Understanding how and why earthing systems are installed

You don’t need to be an electrician.

We’ll teach you what you’re doing, why you’re doing it and how to do it properly.

These aren’t skills you’ll pick up working for every civil contractor.

But we’re really recruiting the person.

We’re a small crew.

We work together, have a laugh, help each other out and rely on everyone doing their part.

So we’re not looking for someone who just wants another job.

We’re looking for someone who wants to join the team.

Someone who turns up.

Someone who gets involved.

Someone who sees the boys loading the truck and jumps in without being asked.

Someone who’s interested when a machine is operating and wants to know how it works.

Someone who asks questions.

Someone who takes some pride in becoming good at something.

If you’re the person who naturally wants to learn more and do more, we’ll give you the opportunity to do it.

Where could you be in a few years?

That’s largely going to depend on you.

You could come through the door with very little experience and develop into a skilled machine operator.

You might find you’re particularly interested in drilling.

You might develop into specialist earthing work.

You might become capable across all of it.

As your skills, licences and responsibilities increase, we want your position within the business to grow with them.

Our goal isn’t to find someone to push a shovel for the next five years.

It’s to find someone worth investing in.

What do you need to start?

A driver’s licence and Construction White Card.

If you already have an MR/HR licence, plant tickets, civil experience, mechanical experience or experience around utilities, that’s a bonus.

But we’d rather meet someone with limited experience and a great attitude than someone with every ticket who doesn’t want to be part of the team.
