Job summary

ERSCON Pty. Ltd. in Cairns invites a practical Civil Site Inspector to oversee on-site construction quality and compliance across civil infrastructure projects in FNQ, working closely with design engineers and managers.

This field role involves regular site visits (earthworks, roads, drainage), contractor audits, sign-off on milestones, daily diaries, and NCR reporting, with regional travel, a company vehicle or allowance, and strong teamwork.

Qualifications

• Trade background and/or Diploma in Civil Engineering or substantial industry experience in civil construction supervision.
• 5+ years of experience supervising or inspecting civil construction sites, preferably with local government standards or engineering consultancies.
• Strong knowledge of civil construction methodologies, standard drawings, soil behaviours, and concrete placement.

Responsibilities

• On-site inspections to monitor civil works (earthworks, roads, drainage, and utilities) against approved designs.
• Audit contractor performance, perform site testing verifications, and ensure materials and workmanship comply with Australian Standards and local council requirements.
• Hold-point and witness-point clearance: inspect and sign off on critical milestones before proceeding to subsequent phases.
• Maintain detailed daily site diaries, capture photographic evidence, and issue clear NCRs when necessary.
• Liaise between site contractors, clients, and ERSCON’s design office to resolve site queries or unforeseen ground conditions.

What You'll Do

On-Site Inspections: Conduct regular site visits to monitor civil works (bulk earthworks, road pavements, stormwater drainage, and utilities), ensuring construction aligns perfectly with approved engineering designs and specifications.

Quality & Compliance Control: Audit contractor performance, perform site testing verifications, and ensure all materials and workmanship comply with Australian Standards and local council requirements.

Hold-Point & Witness-Point Clearance: Inspect and formally sign off on critical project milestones before subsequent construction phases proceed.

Reporting & Documentation: Maintain detailed daily site diaries, capture photographic evidence, and issue clear, concise non-conformance reports (NCRs) when necessary.

Liaison & Collaboration: Act as the vital link between the site contractors, clients, and ERSCON’s design office to quickly resolve site queries or unforeseen ground conditions.

What We Look For

Qualifications: A trade background, a Diploma in Civil Engineering, or substantial industry experience in civil construction supervision.

Experience: 5+ years of experience supervising or inspecting civil construction sites, preferably working with local government standards or engineering consultancies.

Technical eye: Deep understanding of civil construction methodologies, standard drawings, soil behaviours, and concrete placement.

Local Knowledge: Strong familiarity with FNQ regional conditions and Queensland civil construction standards (such as DTMR or local council specifications) is highly desirable.

Communication & Assertiveness: Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills, with the confidence to professionally enforce compliance and manage on-site discussions with contractors.

Must-Haves: A valid open driver’s licence, a Construction White Card, and a willingness to occasionally travel to regional project sites.
