Job summary

Mackay Regional Council is seeking a Leading Hand Maintenance professional to supervise a civil operations team in Sarina. Join us to deliver scheduled maintenance, coordinate staff, and ensure high standards of workmanship with a focus on safety and client service.

You will supervise road and drainage works, perform hands-on tasks, and mentor staff while promoting efficient practices and environmental compliance. A banded Level 5/6 role with competitive salary is on offer.

Qualifications

• Certificate III in Civil Construction or ability to obtain within two years.
• QLD “C” Class Drivers Licence or interstate equivalent (transfer within three months).
• Current QLD HR Class Licence or interstate equivalent (transfer within three months).
• Current General Construction Safety ‘White’ Card.
• Current Traffic Management Implementation (TMI) qualifications or ability to obtain within three months.
• Certificate of Competency to operate road construction plant/equipment (roller/loader/backhoe/grader).
• Sound reading/writing and basic numerical calculation skills.
• Strong communication with clients and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Supervise a team delivering road, drainage, and civil construction activities.
• Plan, organise, and coordinate staff and resources for timely, high-quality work.
• Perform hands-on construction and maintenance as required.
• Lead safety training and promote WH&S compliance.
• Oversee use and maintenance of small plant and equipment.
• Manage traffic control at worksites to protect workers and the public.
• Maintain records and complete paperwork promptly.
• Provide excellent client service to internal and external stakeholders.
• Mentor and train team members and support skills development.
• Adapt to changing environments while maintaining high quality and continuous improvement.
