Job summary

Mackay Regional Council is seeking a Level 5 (Stream B) plant operator and labourer to support the Parks & Open Spaces program. The role combines mowing and vegetation work with roads, drainage and other civil construction.

You will operate tractors and ride-on equipment, perform maintenance, and assist with earthworks and bitumen tasks. You will work both independently and with the team, maintain records, provide traffic control, and ensure safety.

Qualifications

• Current General Construction Safety White Card.
• Manual Queensland C class driver licence or interstate equivalent (transferred within 3 months).
• Traffic Stop/Slow and Traffic Management Implementation competencies, or ability to obtain within six months.
• Experience operating road construction plant, tractors and slashers.
• Experience in roads and drainage construction and maintenance.
• Knowledge of preventative machinery maintenance and WHS requirements.
• Ability to work independently and in a team with high customer service.
• Manual handling and ability to read/write basic calculations.

Responsibilities

• Operate tractors and slashers, ride-on equipment safely and competently.
• Undertake vegetation work and civil maintenance including earthworks, concrete, pipelaying and bitumen work.
• Carry out daily plant maintenance and pre-start checks.
• Provide traffic control and traffic management around work sites.
• Complete timesheets and records; support colleagues and the public.
• Work safely and share practical knowledge with the team.
