Job summary

Sunshine Coast Council is seeking a Civil Field Worker (Plant) to operate backhoes and other civil construction plant across the Sunshine Coast region. You will participate in maintaining and improving roads, bridges and related assets, working in a collaborative team to deliver safe, reliable transport infrastructure.

The role requires a Certificate III in Civil Construction or equivalent experience, strong teamwork, and good communication.

• Skilled plant operator with experience operating civil construction machinery.
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills; ability to follow work programs.

Responsibilities

• Operate civil construction plant including excavators, loaders, rollers, tractors and low loaders.
• Undertake civil maintenance, construction and labouring activities associated with plant operations.
• Complete timesheets, logbooks and incident reports accurately and on time.

About the Branch

The Transport Assets & Operations Branch plays a vital role in maintaining and improving the Sunshine Coast's road and related infrastructure assets, including pavements, bridges, drainage systems, pathways and street furniture. As part of the Infrastructure & Natural Assets Directorate, the branch is committed to delivering high-quality maintenance, construction and asset management services while continuously improving performance through teamwork, innovation and employee engagement.

About the Role

As a Civil Field Worker (Plant), you will be required to operate a backhoe in the gravel roads team and play a hands-on role in delivering and maintaining essential civil infrastructure across the Sunshine Coast region. Operating a range of construction plant and machinery, you will contribute to maintenance and construction projects that support safe and efficient transport networks. Working within a high-performing team, this is an excellent opportunity to combine your plant operating expertise with meaningful work that directly benefits the community.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate a variety of civil construction plant including excavators, loaders, rollers, tractors and low loaders.
• Undertake civil maintenance, construction and labouring activities associated with plant operations.
• Complete operational documentation including timesheets, logbooks and incident reports accurately and on time.
• Work collaboratively with team members while maintaining strong safety, environmental and customer service standards.

About You

You hold a Certificate III in Civil Construction or bring equivalent industry experience and have a strong understanding of civil maintenance and construction activities.

You are a skilled plant operator with experience operating and maintaining civil construction machinery and equipment in a safe and efficient manner.

You thrive in a team environment, contribute positively to workplace culture and enjoy working with others to achieve shared goals and deliver quality outcomes.

You have strong communication and problem-solving skills, can follow work programs effectively and take pride in delivering high-quality work within required timeframes.
